Tirana International School 5 September, 2018 Important Dates September 6 & 7 - Secondary Retreat at Lake Shkodra Resort 10 - 1st Season Activities START 12 - PSG Meeting - 8:00 am 21 - MS parent/teacher mixer October 8-12 - Fall Break - No School Director's Desk Dear Parents and Friends of TIS, Thank you all that attended the Back to School Picnic last Friday. It was wonderful to have a chance to meet with new families and introduce the year to the community. We look forward to many such events this year. Next Wednesday, September 12 at 8:00 am, TIS will have our first Parent Support Group (PSG) meeting of the year. The PSG is a great way for parents and guardians to get involved in the life of the school through volunteer opportunities and providing valuable feedback to the school. Plan on joining us, meeting other parents, and finding out how you can support the work of TIS next Wednesday. Looking Forward, Robert S. Jackson, Director Cafeteria Improvements This year the cafeteria has made some important changes in the meals offered to TIS students. First we want to mention that the chef has been replaced. For those of you who have been around for a while, you will remember the chef from two years ago, Kela. She has returned to bring back the quality and menu that we all enjoyed from the past. Next, we want to draw your attention to student choice in menus. Each day, students will select from two different full menus like the ones seen in the photos. Each meal consists of a main course, soup, fresh vegetables, a hot vegetable dish and fresh fruit. Students are then able to go back up and ask for additional portions of anything that they would like. Finally, we are working with the staff to continually create appetizing menus that all ages will enjoy. If parents or older students would like to suggest and prepare a sample dish, the staff would be happy to try it out during food service. The goal is to hear from you as far as what you want to see on a rotation in the cafeteria. Please feel free to make an appointment with the cafeteria to demonstrate how to make a particular meal by writing to era@alb.qsi.org. I'm sure you will have a great time! Want to try a meal at the cafeteria for yourself? Make a lunch date with your child and enjoy a wonderful eating experience. Activities start on Monday, September 10. This week you will get a letter telling you which activities that your child is in based on your preferences. What a Great Start! Students are enjoying small class sizes and personalized attention in their groups. Teachers continue to provide exceptional learning opportunities for students. This is especially true in our new science curriculum, which focuses on inquiry learning and questioning strategies. |
