Charlotte Prodger and Scotland + Venice 2019

This 58th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia opens on 11 May 2019. Charlotte Prodger, a Cove Park resident in 2010 and 2018, was selected by the Scotland + Venice partnership to represent Scotland and commissioned by the Scotland + Venice partnership to produce a major new work. The project is curated by Linsey Young with Cove Park and we look forward to welcoming the first visitors to the venue at Arsenale Docks this month.

We were pleased to host all 17 of the exhibition assistants taking part in the Scotland + Venice Professional Development Programme for a training session at Cove Park on 20 April. The participants gave presentations on their own work, met Charlotte Prodger for the first time and heard more about the commissioned work. We were also pleased to welcome Birds of Paradise Theatre for leading a wonderful Disability Awareness Training session.

Scotland + Venice: The Scottish Tour

From 27 June 2019, Charlotte Prodger's new work will tour cinemas across Scotland's west coast, highlands and islands. Taking place at the same time as the exhibition in Venice, the work will screen at seven cinemas and art centres from 27 June to 21 November 2019. This new approach means Scotland + Venice will reach audiences that would not otherwise have the opportunity to see the work. The Scottish Tour is supported by Art Fund, Screen Scotland and Outset Scotland and the participating venues are: The Tower Digital Arts Centre, Helensburgh; Glasgow Film Theatre, Campbeltown Picture House; Aros Community Cultural Centre, Skye; An Lanntair, Isle of Lewis; Mareel, Shetland Arts Centre and Belmont Filmhouse, Aberdeen. Tickets for all screenings are free and will be released in June 2019.

The Lighthouse & Cove Park Crafts Residency

After the success of Poppy Nash’s 2018 residency and exhibition, The Lighthouse, Scotland’s Centre for Design and Architecture, in partnership with Cove Park, is pleased to offer a further opportunity for an emerging artist in 2019. This fully-funded residency supports research and the development of new work, leading to a six-week exhibition within the Review Gallery at The Lighthouse.

We are pleased to announce the 2019 Lighthouse & Cove Park Crafts Residency has been awarded to furniture designer Camille Arnould Walachowski. You can read more about Camille and her work here.

European Residency Programme - Ultima Vez

On 29 March we announced the eight project partners working with Cove Park on our new European Residency Programme. These partners are leading arts organisations committed, like Cove Park, to maintaining and developing cultural exchange between Scotland and European nations. Over the coming months we will feature each partner and provide an overview of their work and current projects.

We are delighted to be working with Ultima Vez. Founded in 1986 as the company of choreographer, director and filmmaker Wim Vandekeybus, Ultima Vez has enjoyed huge success ever since as an international contemporary dance company with a strong base in Brussels and Flanders.

The activities of Ultima Vez are focussed currently around: the creation, production, distribution and promotion of the artistic work of Wim Vandekeybus; the organisation of educational activities for various groups; the support and counselling of upcoming choreographers such as Seppe Baeyens and the development of community work in cooperation with several socio-artistic partners in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek. Further information on the Ultima Vez residency at Cove Par will be announced in June.

This programme is supported by British Council Scotland and Creative Scotland. Find out more about this programme and our supporters here.

Hands-On in May

Saturday Studios, our monthly programme of workshops for primary and secondary school children, devised and led by former Cove Park residents, runs again on 18 May. The primary school session will focus on plaster reliefs and will be led by Florence Dwyer. Secondary school students have the opportunity to work with Emmie McLuskey on an 'Images in Motion' workshop, exploring how movement can be captured and recorded. Please visit the Hands-On page of our website for further information and to reserve a free place.
