1. Listeria outbreak expands as questions asked about hospital food safety

The outbreak has expanded to nine cases as questions are asked in Parliament about the hospital food chain. Meanwhile, a researcher in Scotland asks if Whole Genome Sequencing can reduce risks for industry and prevent outbreaks.

2. Sweden hit by new Yersinia outbreak; source unknown

Swedish officials are investigating an outbreak of Yersinia with more than 20 people affected.

3. 279 sick: Salmonella infections again linked to backyard poultry

15.06.2019. USA. Salmonella

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control reports that since the last update on May 16, 2019, illnesses in an additional 227 people and 20 states have been added to this investigation. Four Salmonella serotypes have also been added.

4. Belgium, Mexico step up avian flu prevention measures

Low pathogenic avian influenza has been detected at another farm in Wallonia following a series of outbreaks in Flanders this year. Last week, new measures came into place to prevent the spread of the disease.

6. CDC says E. coli outbreak ‘over’ with 209 patients and counting

Declaring that the outbreak “appears to be over,” the CDC today reported that multiple suppliers, distributors and or brands of ground beef are likely behind an E. coli O103 outbreak this spring that sickened more than 200 people.

7. 2 dead, 2,000 sick from campy in water in Norway

MRT reports that a  patient from a southern Norway island with contaminated water has died after being hospitalized with gastrointestinal symptoms, authorities said Thursday.
