STAYCATION OR VACATION PIZZASPizza Hut have just launched a ‘Staycation or Vacation’ range, allowing customers to adventure through their meals. The range features two new pizzas – a twist on the British classic ‘Roast Dinner’ which includes roast beef, red wine gravy, sage and onion stuffing and roast potatoes. The second provides a taste of vacation to the Mediterranean with the ‘Chicken & Chorizo’ topped with Spanish-style paprika chicken, smoky chorizo and red onion. 2. FRESH TAKE ON GREEK STREET FOODSmashing Plates is a new chain of Greek restaurants that is set to open in London this summer. The mission promises a fresh and unorthodox take on Greek and Cypriot street food classics. The all-day chain will specialise in gyros, the famous Greek wrap, and all the meat used will be butchered and marinated for 24 hours in-house, and only cooked to order. There will also be an array of plant-based dishes, including various salads, spiced cinnamon pita and handmade baklava. 3. KFC GROWTH PLANS FOR 2021KFC sees the potential to triple in size and is predicting “buckets of growth” in the long-term plan revealed at a recent YUM Global Investor Day. They predict exceptional growth in its overseas markets seeing that is where 90% of the company’s growth has come from in the last five years. To assist in more efficient operations, KFC is investing in new technologies including a driver tracking system, temperature-regulating Bluetooth sensors for kitchens, augmented reality glasses for training purposes and robotics for application and scaling potential. 4. A MAGNIFICENT MEAT FEASTChicago Town has launched the ‘Magnificent Meat Feast’ as part of its takeaway range in retail this week. The fully loaded pizza is topped with pepperoni, ham and our own Dawn Farms mini meatballs, sausage crumble and mozzarella. Chicago Town has used its signature rising Takeaway with tomato sauce stuffed crust. 5. WHO WILL WIN BEST BURGER IN THE UK?The National Burger Awards, now in its seventh year, will see chefs from the restaurant, pub and street food sectors battle it out to see if their burger has what it takes to be judged as the ‘Best in the UK’. High street favourites, such as MEATliquor and Shake Shack, will take on chefs from independents like Filthy Buns and El Perro Negro, which won the title in 2019. The live cook-off will be held on September 28th at the London Shenley Club and judged by a panel of industry connoisseurs. 6. YO! ON THE GO WITH TESCOIn addition to the Yo! kiosks already in Tesco stores, there will now be Yo! pre-packaged products in the front of store fridges. The new trial agreement will start at the end of May with Yo!’s best selling products, including crispy salmon rolls, chicken katsu bites and a new bespoke product – crispy California rolls in 390 stores. The multi-brand, multi-channel Japanese food group, who also produce branded sauces, seasonings and marinades, believe it is the perfect time to trial the new concept, with consumers going out and about again. 7. FOODSERVICE INFLATION PREDICTIONSAs restrictions are lifted and indoor dining makes a return, there are predictions that the price of food will begin to rise. According to Prestige Purchasing, expected prices will rebound above 2020 levels as volumes recover. While consumer confidence is rising and more operators are back in business, it is still a long road to profitability. Paying attention to pricing trends and responding deftly will be crucial to the recovery process throughout the rest of the year. 8. BURGER KING'S PLANT-BASED WEEKBurger King Germany is opening the chain's first-ever all-plant-based restaurant in Cologne, Germany for a limited time. From June 7-11th, the Burger King restaurant will only serve plant-based options, including the nuggets, Rebel Whopper and newly launched sandwich called the Long Chicken Patty. Moreover, Burger King UK is working towards a menu that will be 50% plant-based in 10 years' time. 9. WHOOSH ONE HOUR DELIVERY SERVICEDue to the continued popularity of online shopping and delivery, Tesco has announced their latest partnership with the one-hour delivery service called Whoosh. They are set to trial the new model from one store in Wolverhampton, UK to see how well the service performs in that area. Tesco currently has a flat rate of £4.50 on regular delivery orders and this rapid delivery is an additional 50p for consumers.
