Legislative Session: Going to the End of the Line

Per usual, Legislative leaders and the Governor are pitched in last-minute maneuvering to cobble together a deal on transportation, taxes, supplemental spending, and a capital improvements (bonding) bill. BATC is monitoring closely as our 10-day housing moratorium notice remains alive in the supplemental budget bill, and a sprinkler mandate prohibition made a surprise appearance and cleared the Senate on a 41-22 vote margin. BATC’s presence at the legislature is spearheaded by Larkin Hoffman’s Peter Coyle, who leads a talented team of attorneys and lobbyists. Their latest update spells out the parameters for the final days of the 2016 legislature.

Government Regulations “Priced Out” 14 Million Households

A recent NAHB study estimated that, on average, regulations imposed by government at all levels account for 24.3% of the final new home price. For a typical new single-family home built for sale, this translates into additional $84,561.
