Honoring American Indian Traditions
This month, we give thanks for Yosemite’s rich cultural history! Through new hands-on, interactive educational programs coordinated by youth interns from Yosemite-area tribes, park visitors can actively participate in restoration of American-Indian umacha dwellings alongside cultural demonstrators.

Education at Yosemite’s Pioneer History Center
Until now, the story visitors see at the Pioneer Yosemite History Center in Wawona has been largely limited to that of European-American settlers. In 2019, the restoration of a laundry house for Chinese laborers and the installation of exhibits featuring American Indians and African-American “Buffalo Soldiers” will encourage visitors to connect with Yosemite’s pioneer era in a new way!
