WELCOME TO SUMMER!

Summer is upon us and the Ancient medical science of Ayurveda contains the secrets to staying cool when temperatures keep going up.

According to Ayurveda, the qualities of the summer are hot, sharp and penetrating. This is why our pitta-dosha tends to flare up when the temperatures rise and can produce imbalances such as sunburns, hot flashes, exhaustion, acne, dhiarrea, impatience, anger and jealousy.

The best foods to keep you cool during the summer are watermelon, cucumber, coconut, fennel, coriander, mint and aloe vera.

 

Better to avoid spicy, acidic and greasy food in the summer since they will increase the heat in your body and make you feel hotter rand heavier.

It’s also important during this season to exercise regularly and adapt the exercise to this time of the year. Best to swim and do gentle yoga exercises. If you like running or cycling try to save it for early morning or evening when temperature is cooler.

Summer’s intense heat saps moisture from our bodies, so remember to stay hydrated: moisturize daily, protect yourself from the sun and refresh yourself as much as possible.

Adapt your bedtime routine to Summer

Ayurveda is all about listening to the seasons and adjusting our lifestyle accordingly.

In the Summer you can go to bed a bit later around 11.00 when some of the sun’s heat has dissipated. 

Sleep on your right side to open your left nostril which corresponds to the subtle energy channel related to the cooling of the moon.
