Here comes the money: Infrastructure takes centre stage in federal election

Here comes the money: Infrastructure takes centre stage in federal election

Now that we are deep into the throes of the 2015 federal election, the need to invest in Canadian communities is re-entering the political debate.

Infrastructure investment drives economic growth by enabling trade and commerce to take place. For years, Canada has squandered the upkeep of our public infrastructure and has missed economic opportunities. With barriers already stalling Canada’s ability to gain market access, resilient transportation infrastructure is more important than ever. Now with the sluggish economy, infrastructure investment can play a vital role in creating jobs and stimulating growth.

Read more about how infrastructure investments are necessary to ensure the competitiveness of Canadian businesses.

Agribusiness: From farm to fork to foodie

Agribusiness: From farm to fork to foodie

Wednesday, September 23, 2015
5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Charbar – Simmons Building
618 Confluence Way SE

The food we serve and the tastes our culinary scene cultivates are directly impacted by where our food comes from. As chefs become more aware about the impact of their food choices, strong relationships between local producers and popular restaurants have formed, making “farm to fork” a new standard of sustainability.

In the latest edition of our Agribusiness series, we explore this new standard of sustainability over a locally-sourced menu at Charbar in the heart of the East Village. With fork in hand, hear from some of the biggest players in the local food industry as they discuss the whole food value chain and its importance to food security, food supply and sustainability, and how it relates to upcoming food trends.

Join us as we learn what it takes to cultivate a sustainable local food culture, and discuss some of the biggest food issues globally.

Helping our members succeed takes more than making the right connections (even though those are pretty important). It also means investing in our members as individuals. Of all our programs, some of the most unique are our CEO peer mentoring programs called PRESS and PeerSpectives.

But instead of telling you all about them, we wanted to share one member’s story about her experiences with the PeerSpectives program. Meet Yolanda Hula, President and CEO of LeTeam Business to Business Ltd.

Read about how peer mentoring helped Yolanda grow her business.

Is your online checkout page perfect? Find out what you're missing.

Is your online checkout page perfect? Find out what you're missing.

Imagine going to Walmart, filling your cart with products, then ditching it by the door and walking out empty-handed. More often than not, that’s what online shoppers do when they visit an eCommerce store. For companies looking to develop a thriving eCommerce business, the wasteland of abandoned carts can be tough to navigate. Many of the aggravations that send shoppers packing instead of purchasing can actually stem from the checkout page itself. However, there are a few tips to offset this:

  • Make the checkout process as quick and easy as possible for existing customers to login and pay, and for new ones to checkout as guests.
  • Offer multiple shipping options and be upfront about the costs.
  • Reassure shoppers and demonstrate how safe your payment processing is.

Take a look at this handy infographic on how to craft, test and refine an effective checkout page for your online business.
