Re: Child Safe Policy and what it means for your Congregation or Faith Community

The Uniting Church at both a state and national level have been very active in responding to the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

One of the pieces of work undertaken recently is to develop a Child Safe Policy. This policy makes explicit what is implied in our Called to Care programme, where the focus is on having policies and procedures that protect the rights and well-being of all people.

Please download this letter, from Rev Philip Gardner, for the attention and action of your Church Council regarding the new Child Safe policy.

You will also need to download the PDF copy of the Child Safe Policy for Congregations eform.  Once this has been downloaded, you can fill in your congregation name prior to printing.

It is now easier to access the Safe Church website. Simply click on the Safe Church logo on the Uniting Church SA home page.  There are links to the documents named in the Child Safe policy, training information and other helpful information.

To help you communicate the Safe Church message with your congregation there is a poster which was available at the last two meetings of the Presbytery/Synod meeting. Please display this prominently in your community space. If you do not have one or would like another, please contact the Safe Church office.

Please note, this is being sent to Safe Church Contact persons, Secretaries, Minsters and or a representative of congregation for whom we have an email address in lieu of the above.

If you have any further questions regarding this policy or the actions requested, please direct your enquiry to Gill Morel.
