Wheel of Brisbane undergoing first major maintenance works

The now-familiar landmark at South Bank is undergoing its first major maintenance works since being installed in 2009.

Executive Director of the Wheel of Brisbane, John Elliott said that while regular checks and cleans on the structure were performed every day, it's necessarily for an attraction like this to undergo a major maintenance program every six or seven years.

The works are expected to take around three weeks, with the Wheel predicted to be back in operation from June 10.

Tell us about your business/organisation?
Live Fire strive to deliver a high quality meat-centric menu paired with carefully selected beers and wines at pub prices.

We are a full service bar and steak restaurant located in the heart of South Bank Parklands overlooking the beach with the city and river as our backdrop. Our goal is centered on delivering a celebratory relaxed ambiance with an unwavering focus on consistency in both food and beverage and customer experience.

Live Fire was purpose designed with various break-out spaces to accommodate functions and events ranging in size from an intimate gathering of 10 of your nearest and dearest, right through to a full venue gathering of up to 500 guests.

What is your role at your organisation?
General Manager

What are your key skills and responsibilities?
Managing the managers and the day to day operations of the venue.

How many people work at your business?
Between 25-30 staff depending on function bookings.

What is your favourite place in the precinct?
Spending some time in the kids water park with my wife and 3y/o son when they come down to visit me at work is wonderfully calming and fun.

What do you want BSB members to know about you or your business?
Our slow smoked briskets, ribs and steaks will make your eyes roll into the back of your head.

What is something people wouldn’t know about your business?
The River Room, located on our upper level is a purpose built function & event space complete with AV facilities and full bar. The 2 balconies provide incredible views and the versatility to accommodate events from 20-100 people seated or up 150 guests, cocktail style.

What has recently happened at your organisation?
We introduced Beer School – Where our bar staff take the time to educate beer lovers weekdays from 5-7pm on our extensive range of beers on tap. We also host a “meet the brewer”, one Friday after work every month where one of our brewer’s shouts a keg and mingles with punters.

What have you learnt lately?
Regardless of how long I’ve spent in the hospitality industry there’s always something new to keep one entertained and on your toes.

What do you hope to achieve in your industry?
An iconic status as Brisbane’s go to place for a beer and steak with mates.

What inspires you?
Provoking random abstract art.

What are your words of wisdom?
Taking the harder road in life is always the most personally rewarding.
