Reflection

This Thursday is the feast day of Australia’s first saint - Mary Mackillop. This prayer is dedicated to her.
Provident God,
With grateful hearts we remember the power for goodness that Saint Mary of the Cross is for the people of Australia. As we celebrate her feast today, touch us anew with her spirit of charity and her generous participation in the mission of the Church. We ask this in the name of Christ, the Lord. Amen.
Tomorrow at 3pm in the church the whole school will be participating in a prayer service dedicated to Mary Mackillop.

Greg's Message

Hello Parents and Friends of St. Anne’s
It’s a “red letter” day today as the children now have access to the back court. The whole area, including the new retaining wall, looks fabulous, and the children are ecstatic! This project has taken the best part of three years fundraising. To everyone who has contributed to the cause - thank you very much. We'd like to acknowledge the Parents and Friends Association over the past 3 years for their hard work in fundraising.  In particular, I’d like to acknowledge the tremendous work and support of Syl Longo, Richard Clancy, Tom Aldous and Tony Taouk. Their work, expertise and generosity is greatly appreciated.

Enrolments
We will be starting to organise class structures shortly. It would be appreciated if parents could advise me if their child will not be attending St. Anne’s next year (current Foundation to Year 5 students.)

Religious Education

Parents have you remembered to do your confirmation homework?which was given to you after the Faith night.  It is very important that this is done and sent to school BEFORE Friday as we will be using this as one of our activities.  Please send your letters to the class teacher or to the office with your childs name on it.

The Confirmation Reflection Day is coming up on the 9th August. It is an important day for our year 6 Confirmation candidates and the children who are not making their confirmation are invited to participate in this day too.

They will be able to wear casual clothes and their morning tea will be provided for them. Children will need to supply their own lunch and drink.

This day is a reflective day for the children and of their formal preparation for this special sacrament. It is an expectation that it be attended by all of the year 6 children-but in particular, the year 6 confirmation candidates.

Monsignor Tony Ireland will be visiting the candidates on the 14th August at 2pm to have a chat with them about the sacrament, their chosen saint and about a few formalities of the ceremony.

Dates for your diaries:

  • The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated at St Anne’s on Saturday 17th August at 3.00 pm.
  • Confirmation Reflection Day Friday 9th August

Library News

Grandparents’ Day Thank you

Thank you so much to the Grandparents and Special Friends for their kind donations to our school library. The books donated valued $2145.

Thank you to Bianca Pezzanno who was instrumental in the preparation of books. Thank you also to Lisa Hodgkinson for setting up a roster and to Bianca, Sarah Dare, Jacinta Cleland and Becky Jurkovic for being the best sales assistants.

The book selection was amazing and the library has been replenished with many superb quality and popular titles that the children can’t wait to borrow.

The books will be catalogued and labelled over the next few weeks and then we would need some parent volunteers to please cover them.

Happy Reading
Thank you

Parents and Friends Association

The first 4 weeks of term have been busy once again. The support of those parents and friends who participated in the Working Bee on 21st July 2019 was very much appreciated. Their efforts, led by Syl Longo and Clare Bellio, ensured the playground area was looking terrific for Grandparents Day the following Friday. Once again, St Anne’s turned on a great day for Grandparents and Special Friends. Lisa Hodgkinson and Maria Costanzo did a brilliant job co-ordinating volunteers and the many tasks required to make this day a definite highlight of the school calendar. Our thanks also to Father John for conducting such a meaningful Mass.

Today sees the culmination of much work by a very committed group of Parents & Friends, with the opening of the Resurfaced Lower Courts. This project has been fully financed by the P&F Association, without the need to take out a loan. Our children now have a brilliant new play area and it looks fantastic – come and see for yourselves!

Many people have helped make this project possible: Therese Taouk and Gina Tsamis (2017 Chasers Fundraiser), Kathleen Sexton, Rebecca Ellis and Lisa Hodgkinson (2018 Dinner Dance), Didi Muccio and the Dinner Dance Committee of 2019 (Peta Haasbroek, Nadia Odorico, Louise Gee, Bianca Pezzano, Mirella Orsini, Tanya Hefter, Teresa Aloi, Tash Hibberd & Sofie Hendricks), Tom and Emily Aldous (donated the services of The Tree Company for the removal of old trees and planting of new ones), Tony Taouk (co-ordinated the removal of the old surface) and Syl Longo (project managed the construction of the new retaining wall). Our thanks go out to this amazing crew!

Looking ahead, the P & F Association is organising a Father’s Day Breakfast at the School on Friday 30th August 2019 from 7.30am, at which Dads, Grandads, Step-Dads or other Special Persons are most welcome. Mark this day in the diary now and keep an eye on the Newsletters and SkoolBag App for further details.
