PgCert in Academic Practice in Higher Education

We are excited to welcome over 65 new colleagues to the first module of our PgCAPHE from across the University Group and our partner Institutions, with over 160 progressing on to the second and third modules. Also, other 30 colleagues are joining the Introduction to Teaching and Learning module.

What a year it’s been so far. The PgCAPHE team has been a supportive space for many, as we have all navigated this new way of working. It will continue to allow us to share good practice in teaching, learning and assessment with each other. In response to Covid-19 our course moved from blended learning to fully online in April 2020 and our September 2020 cohorts. The course has transitioned to AULA and continues to be delivered using a blend of the FutureLearn Platform and webinars.

The PgCAPHE leads to Fellowship with Advance HE (FHEA) upon completion of the full course and provides an important induction to teaching, learning, assessment and course design in an UK HE context.

Our Introduction to Teaching and Learning module will welcome around 30 new colleagues, including a number of our PGR students who are supporting teaching within modules across the group.

Applications open for January 2021

We are now open for applications to join the January 2021 cohort of PgCAPHE or the Introduction to Teaching and Learning module. So if you are delivering teaching, learning and assessment to students, and want to gain a teaching and learning qualification at Masters level and Fellowship of Advance HE then we’d love to welcome your application.

The application details can be found on the Academic Development website here – and any queries about this should be directed to acdevunit@coventry.ac.uk.

Academic Professional Development

In the 2019-20 academic year 2,906 staff attended our events.

As 2020-2021 starts, it is worth considering the achievements of last year. Pre-covid we were delighted to see staff engaging with the Academic Programme of Events from across the During the first six months (September-February) there were 1212 participants across the 127 face to face courses and webinars delivered. This does not include those who joined our bespoke events tailored for courses, schools and faculty.Group.

How March dramatically changed things!

Our ability to quickly switch our offering over to an entirely online provision meant that an additional 1,567 colleagues attended online events during March-July.

It is an amazing achievement during unprecedented times and we look forward to continuing to develop this online offering during 2020-2021.

  • Sep 2019 - Feb 2020: 1,212 people had attended our face-to-face events; we ran 127 face to face courses and webinars.
  • March - August 2020: 1,567 people attended our online events

Our focus continues to remain on enhancing the students learning experiences through teaching and learning with a new series of events due to be launched in early October, please look out for this!
