Regional workshops: An opportunity for venue managers, operators and other regionally based stakeholders to engage with the Department face-to-face.
Building on the successful regional engagement in 2017 the Department of Internal Affairs will host regional workshops in February and March. The first workshops will be in Napier, Tauranga, Rotorua, Hamilton, Nelson, Greymouth and Whangarei. We hope to visit more locations later in the year.
The workshops are designed to support venue and club managers, operators and staff, management service providers, regional society staff and minimising gambling harm service providers. They will be used to share knowledge and good practice, explain Department initiatives and seek feedback from the sector on our future plans. The workshops will be interactive; and your opportunity to help us create realistic scenarios which could be used in future host responsibility resources or venue assessments.
This is your chance to meet with Department staff (including the Director of the Gambling Compliance Group, Gambling Inspectors, project leads and managers) Health Promotion Agency staff, multi-venue exclusion co-ordinators and others.
Please note: These regional workshops are aimed at a local operational audience and are different to the Sector Forums, which will be taking place in Dunedin (March 1), Christchurch (March 2), Wellington (March 9) and Auckland (March 16).
In response to stakeholder feedback the workshop will focus on:
-
The new venue assessment process
-
Gamble Host training and resources
-
Multi-venue (and other) exclusion orders
-
Mystery shopper projects
-
Good practice
-
Logbooks.
Two sessions will be held in each location. The morning sessions are aimed at non-club venues and the afternoon sessions towards clubs. However, there will be a lot of crossover and you are welcome to attend either session. Minimising gambling harm representatives can attend either, or both, sessions.
Previous attendees found these workshops very valuable and we strongly encourage you to attend if you can. Please email sector.initiatives@dia.govt.nz by Wednesday January 31 to let us know which session you would like to attend.
