A Message from Jerry Salvador - Head of School

Dear Brookes Westshore families,

Our teaching staff will return to our campus on Monday. We have some new faces in the faculty this year and we will introduce them to you in the coming weeks. I am always excited by the opportunity for renewal and positive change that new staff bring to the school. 

With the challenges of COVID-19 still very much present, a key role in the new school year will be our school nurse. I am delighted to be able to introduce Melanie Penn to you, who has agreed to join our team in this important role. 

Melanie received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lakehead University in 1998 and completed an Advanced Practice Nursing Fellowship in 2012. She worked for 17 years with the Island Health Acute Stroke Program through Victoria General Hospital, coordinating hyper-acute stroke in the emergency department. Most recently she became the Clinical Nurse Leader and Educator participating in policy development at a provincial and national level through the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. 

As you can see Melanie brings a wealth of skills and experience to the role. As well as these professional qualifications she is also mother to two of our students (Kiki and Michael). We are so happy Melanie is joining Brookes Westshore and I am sure our students will benefit from her care and support.

Uniform Update from Andrea Salvador

Dear Brookes Westshore families,

In preparation for the new school year I wanted to let you know about our school uniform and the following changes:

Blazers are now optional for the grade 10 students. Blazers will be mandatory for grades 11 and 12. There are many used blazers available for purchase in the used uniform store or you can purchase a new one at www.topmarks.ca  school code BSL01.

Formal uniform, casual uniform or PE strip are acceptable to wear for ALL GRADES, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, regardless of if it is a PE day. On Thursdays, the formal uniform is still mandatory for all grades. 

New uniform items are still to be purchased by parents online at www.topmarks.ca  school code BSL01.

Appointments for fittings or to purchase used clothing can be made with me from August 17th onward by emailing asalvador@westshore.brookes.org.
