Did you miss the last issue of our Friday Flash...
Have you heard that adage 'a change is as good as a rest'? It expresses straightforwardly the notion that a change is as good as a holiday. Auckland Bowls has had a few changes recently we, could say a summer holiday of changes! We have new team members bringing a diverse range of experience, new energy, and new ideas. Our goal to support and grow the sport of bowls in Auckland and support our clubs is a top focus for the team. Over the coming weeks, you'll get to meet our team in issues of Friday Flash. You'll get snippets of who they are, where they are based and what they are achieving.
Hi LaurenIf you have been wondering about the new voice on the other end of the phone for the past two weeks, then wonder no longer! We are pleased to introduce Lauren Cross as the newest member of the Auckland Bowls team.
Lauren is a 1st year Junior bowler and looks forward to being of service to the Auckland Bowling Club community, as we strive to have more people bowling more often. You can contact Lauren on 09 623 3705 or lauren@aucklandbowls.co.nz
We found this little gem in our archives! Ok, so some may recognise the backdrop may have changed a tad, but this social group's views on bowls is pretty clear and still relevant today... it's fun, give bowls a go.
Bowls were originally made from the dense wood lignum vitae – hence the term ‘woods’ for bowls. Most bowls are now made from hard plastic composite material, which has also expanded the colour range. It is not uncommon to see bowls in fluorescent hues mingling with traditional black and brown coloured bowls on greens. Source: Te Ara Encyclopedia
It may be added that bowls is not only a game for all classes but one for all ages. The “old man’s game” is no longer an old man’s game. If there are players of 90 and over, there are others of 19 and under. If possible, however, let a man begin while he is young. It is never too early to start, just as it is never too late to stop.An excerpt from Bowls For All

National 7s Interclub
– format updateDate: 6–7 March 2021
Most recently this event has been open to all full playing club members, competing in one division. Following a review of the event, discussions with several clubs and feedback from a range of senior players, we have updated the format. This year the National 7’s Interclub event will now have two divisions for both women's and men's teams.

Wot 'The Colins'Date: 1 February 2021
We are not talking about a Tom Collins, we're talking about Big Colin, Not Colin, Young Colin, Grumpy at Colin - it was the Colin's wot won it! Bridge Park hosted their second Float Mortgages Open Fours tournament on Auckland Anniversary Day. With cash prizes of more than $2,000, the event attracted competitors from across Auckland, including finalists from the recent National Championships and Taranaki Fours. Hot, dry conditions on the green tested bowlers’ stamina and youth prevailed in the end with first prize going to a team with a particular Colin fetish. Winners: The Colins - Colin
Williams (Young Colin), Jean Claude Fuller (Not Colin), Colin Ayris Webster (Big Colin) and skip Alex Reed (Grumpy at Colin). But who is Boss of Colin?
Bridge Park patron Colin Dale was on hand to present the prize money.
78 + 69 + 78 + 81 = 306 That's 306 years of experience! We all know it takes a lot to win a club title and this year's Carlton Cornwall Men’s Fours on 31 January was no exception with the winning team having a combined age of 306 years. It's an increase from last year's winners of 298 years. We'd love to hear if any other club has an older winning Fours team! It is rude to ask a lady their age so let's just say the Women’s Fours were a much more youthful and a better-looking side!@ Men's Four winners: Michael Farac (78), Len Bilcich (69), Nick Krajancic (78) and
Ivan Marsic (81) Women's Four winners: Lisa Prideaux, Linda Ralph, Judi Wong and Karen Hema
