Greg's Message

Hello Parents and Friends of St. Anne’s
What a special night it was last Saturday at our dinner dance at Fenix! The purpose of such a night is twofold: to raise funds for our great school, and to have fun as we socialise together. It is fair to say that our goals were accomplished. We raised much needed funds in order to replace the surface on our back court, and we certainly enjoyed each others company. I’d like to take this opportunity on thanking the attendees, sponsors and donors for their generosity and involvement. Special thanks to our dinner dance committee - Didi, Peta, Bianca, Nadia, Louise, Mirella, Tanya, Teresa, Tash and Sofie. Their herculean efforts led to a wonderful night - a night where the Spirit of St. Anne was omnipresent. Once again many thanks to all involved. Don’t forget our hospitality mass this Sunday at 10:30am.

Thank you to the Parents for the signed Carlton football.

School reports/parent-teacher interviews
Semester one reports will be emailed to parents on Monday. Parent-teacher interviews will be held on Thursday 25th July, beginning at 1:30pm. Further details to follow.

Enrolments
We will be starting to organise class structures shortly. It would be appreciated if parents could advise me if their child will not be attending St. Anne’s next year (current Foundation to Year 5 students.)

Last day of term
Term two concludes at 1pm on Friday 28th June. Children will be allowed to wear casual clothes to school on June 28th. Students are asked to bring along a gold coin donation on this day. Money raised will help offset the cost of the recently purchased Chinese Elm trees. Term three commences on Monday 15th July at 8:50am.

Bush Dance
Next Wednesday at 2pm we will be holding a bush dance with the children.  The dances have been learnt during performing arts and this is a wonderful opportunity to have fun and show case learning.  Parents are welcome to come along and join in the dances.

Children to wear casual clothes for the day.

Working Bee
We will be holding a school working bee on Sunday 21st July in preparation for the Feast of St Anne and St Joachim (Grandparents Day) to be on held on Friday 26th July.

Sacrament of Confirmation

ATTENTION ALL YEAR 6 PARENTS

Is your child going to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the coming weeks? They will have bought home an intention sheet which needs to be completed and sent back to school asap please.

Dates for your diaries:

  • The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated at St Anne’s on Saturday 17th August at 3.00 pm.
  • Confirmation Faith Evening: Tuesday 30th July
  • Confirmation Reflection Day Friday 9th August

This weekend is the WHOLE SCHOOL MASS on Sunday at 10.30 a.m.

We would like to see as many of our students at the mass, and then join us for a cuppa after mass in the school hall.
Please help buy bringing a plate to share.

This is a call out to all children from Year 3 onwards who have made their First Communion. If you would like to become an altar server, then we have a training morning on the 25th June and 10.00 a.m. It would only be a commitment of one mass per term if we had a few children offer to do this. It is one small way of showing your support to the wider community-the Parish of St Anne. Please consider…..

Social Justice

As our Social Justice Captains Jessica, Lucinda and Nathan mentioned at assembly, please search through your wardrobes for any unused blankets or jackets/coats of any sizes to donate to our Vinnies appeal. It is not too late to still give to this worthy cause.
This is a very good way of you showing your child how we help our wider community without having to constantly put our hands in our pockets for the ‘gold coin’ collections. If you have any non perishable goods or toiletries to give if you don’t have coats or blankets, please send them along.

Piggy backing on from the donation of warm clothing, each classroom has had a box put in front of their room with items of foods/toiletries that we are collecting for Vinnies. Please be generous with your donations and let those boxes overflow! These will be collected after mass by the Vinnies representatives in the parish. The only requisite is that the food is in date please.
Let our boxes overflow with your goods and generosity!

Sports

Hockey/Interschool sport

Last Friday we entered two boys’ and one girls’ team in a hockey tournament. The children loved the day. One of the boys’ teams won two matches, drew two and lost one. The other boys’ team drew three matches and lost two. The girls’ side finished with two draws and three losses.

Dinner Dance 2019

A wonderful night was had by all at the School Dinner Dance last Saturday. Over 100 School Parents, Friends, Past Parents, Teachers and Fr Toan attended and had a great night enjoying each other’s company, the beautiful food and drink on offer and some dancing (well, the dancing was done mostly by the ladies, let’s be honest). The night highlighted the strength of the St Anne’s community and its generosity. The night also highlighted the generosity of an enormous list of sponsors. It is quite overwhelming to consider just how many individuals and businesses were willing to help out our school and our children. The generosity of those who participated in the good humoured and spirited auctions on the night was also something to behold!

Obviously, a significant focus of this year’s dinner was seeing whether we could raise the final component of the finds required to complete the resurfacing of the lower playground court area. While the final figure raised is to be confirmed, we are confident we have made it and this is an outstanding result! There will be more news on the resurfacing project in the coming weeks.

For now, I would like to acknowledge the 2019 Dinner Dance Committee lead by Didi Muccio. It was simply outstanding! There is nothing more appreciated than when a group of people volunteer to take on a project, get on and do it with enthusiasm, flair and talent and deliver something very special. This is what our Dinner Dance Committee did. So please, when you get a chance, extend your appreciation to Didi Muccio, Peta Haasbroek, Nadia Odorico, Louise Gee, Bianca Pezzano, Mirella Orsini, Tanya Hefter, Teresa Aloi, Tash Hibberd & Sofie Hendricks. This amazing group of ladies spent countless hours planning and preparing for the Dinner Dance. It was a huge undertaking and we owe them all an enormous vote of thanks.

I also acknowledge Julie and Netitia in the School Office for the assistance they provided, Becky Ellis who, as P & F Treasurer, played an integral role and dedicated many hours to the finance side of things and Lisa Hodgkinson for the general assistance she provided to the Dinner Dance Committee as P & F Secretary.

Well done St Anne’s!

Richard Clancy

Grandparent's Day 2019

GRANDPARENTS’ DAY – FRIDAY 26TH JULY

Grandparents’ Day this year will be celebrated on Friday 26th July. It is a wonderful day on the St Anne's calendar, celebrating the beautiful bond between our students and their Grandparents, culminating in the famous Morning Tea!

All Grandparents and Special Persons in your child's life are invited to join us!

The day will run as follows:

  • 8am – 9am – Food drop-off and plate preparation
  • 9am - 10am - Grandparents/Special Person Classroom and Library visit, with the opportunity to purchase a book to donate to the school library. This will include a dedication placed in the book on behalf of the Grandparent/special person. Your child will have the first opportunity to borrow the book from the library once the books are ready.
  • 10am - 11am - Mass is celebrated in the church with all Grandparents/special person and Students.
  • 11am - 12pm - Morning Tea is served for the Grandparents/special person in the Multi-Purpose Hall.  The library and classrooms will continue to be open during this time if anyone would like to visit.

We ask that each family supply one plate for the morning tea. This year we request the following:

  • Surname A-D: Fruit Plate
  • Surname F-K: Savoury Plate (eg sausage rolls, party pies, zucchini slice, mini quiche, mini pizzas)
  • Surname L-P: Sweet Plate (slices, cakes)
  • Surname R-W: Sandwich Plate (eg egg, chicken, tuna, cheese & ham, tomato & cheese etc)

If you are gluten free or vegetarian please consider sending along a gluten-free or vegetarian option.

I’m sure many of you have a favourite “go-to” recipe that you like to make, so please feel free to use your preference, but if you are looking for ideas here is a link that you may find helpful. http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/collections/morning-afternoon-tea-recipes

All food is to be delivered to the hall in disposable containers / plates between 8am-9am on the day. It would be super helpful if all sandwiches, slices, cakes etc were pre-sliced when dropped off.

GRANDPARENTS’ DAY – VOLUNTEER REQUEST

Those that have attended in previous years will know that Grandparents Day is an exciting day for all families, but it is also a very busy day.

This is a call-out for volunteers to assist with the set-up of the MPH on the afternoon prior (Thursday 25th July from 2:30pm) as well as for assistance on the day with the library book sale, food set-up, serving of tea & coffee, clean up and laundering tablecloths.

Given that this is an event that covers all year levels throughout the school, it is a wonderful opportunity to become involved and get to know other families within the school community. If you can assist, even if it is for only part of the day please sign up on volunteersignup.org/PJ9YY

Any questions, please contact:

Community News

St Anne’s Basketball Club is looking for Year 1 students keen to participate in our Ball Skills program during Term 3 of 2019.

We are a family based club and have 17 teams comprised of mainly current and former St Anne’s students playing in the Hawthorn Basketball Association competition, ranging in age groups from Under 9’s to U21’s.  Games are played on Saturdays at venues throughout Boroondara.

The Ball Skills sessions will run for 8 weeks during Term 3.  The aim of the sessions is for the children to be ready to commence playing in a team in the 2019/2020 Summer Season for SABC which starts in Term 4.  We will run separate sessions for boys and girls.  At this stage it is planned for the sessions for the boys to be on Friday after school from 4.30 to 5.15 at Kew East Primary School, and the sessions for the girls to be on Thursday after school from 5pm to 5.45 at Boroondara Sports Centre.

The sessions will commence in week 2 of Term 3 with the first session for the girls being on Thursday 25th July and for the boys on Friday 26th July. The final sessions will be held on 12th and 13th September.

A small fee will be charged ($90) for the ball skills sessions, which will then be deducted when registration fees are paid for the first time in registering your child to play in a SABC team.

Please register your interest by emailing secretary@stannesbc.com.au or by speaking to Sarah Lethlean (Secretary of SABC) on 0438 364 709, Tom Lynch (Father of Joshua) on 0418 813 773, or Susan Whyte (Mother of Grace) on 0400 105 742.
