January 2018 New Years Honour for PEPANZ Chair Rob JagerCongratulations to PEPANZ Chairman Rob Jager who has become an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (OMNZ) for his services to business and health and safety. The award recognises the work and leadership Rob has put in over nearly 40 years in the industry. Highlights include chairing the Government's Independent Taskforce on Workplace Health and Safety set up following the Pike River Mine disaster, and chairing the Business Leaders' Health and Safety Forum for four years which now involves 300 chief executives and managing directors. As well as chairing the PEPANZ Board Rob is also chairman of Shell New Zealand, General Manager of Shell Todd Oil Services and Chairman of Be Safe Taranaki. Westside NZ granted exploration permitWestside NZ Ltd were the sole successful recipients of a 2017 Block Offer exploration permit announced just before Christmas. The 12 year permit covers a 547km area offshore from Taranaki. The company also operates two onshore production assets, Rimu and Kauri, in southern Taranaki. According to New Zealand Petroleum & Minerals, the decision followed a thorough evaluation of a number of bids based on factors including technical capability, and the likely ability of operators to meet health, safety and environmental obligations. TAG Oil begins new drillingTAG Oil has started drilling their Pukatea-1 exploration well in Taranaki and expects to be producing around 1300 barrels of oil and gas a day by the end of March. CEO Toby Pierce, who visited New Zealand before Christmas, says the company is also planning a number of well clean-outs, pump changes, and workovers. According to TAG the primary objective of the well is the deeper Tikorangi limestone, and the secondary target will be in the shallower Mt. Messenger sands. The prospect is jointly owned (30%) with Australian company Melbana Energy Ltd.
