Mark has been at the University since 2006 as Director of Organisation Development for the University Group. He has been instrumental in a number of significant initiatives that developed our Organisation in support of the University’s Teaching, Learning, Research and Global strategies. During his time here Mark led the Coventry University team that received the Times Higher award for Outstanding Contribution to Leadership Development in Higher Education in 2008. He also personally led the design and delivery of the 2012 Olympic Ambassador Training Programme for the Coventry Ambassadors, part of the city team that was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Award. In 2015 Mark led a collaborative partnership in Jordan that received the 2015 Global Business Telecom industry award for Customer Service Innovation. More recently he established the University Research Centre for Global Learning Education and Attainment of which is he is Executive Director and was appointed Director on the Board of CU Services Ltd. Mark’s continuous drive to support colleagues in their own development and in achieving greater things for our Organisation coupled with his cheery disposition will be sorely missed. We would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his leadership and friendship and wish him all the best for the future. Rebecca Russell Congratulations to our first cohort of Aurora graduatesAurora was created, by Advance HE, six years ago to help address the issue of the reducing number of women in senior posts in higher education as outlined in their Stimulus Paper ‘Women and Higher Education: Absences and Aspirations’ by Professor Louise Morley (January 2013), and supported by findings from the Office for Students. 2019 is the first year that Coventry have supported a cohort of women to attend and we are proud to share their success with you. Between January and June of this year our cohort attended 4 external skill development workshops, 5 internal sessions giving more ‘Coventry context’ and an action learning set with women from other institutions. Over the period they have also made substantial headway with (if not completed) a process improvement in their business area and built stronger networks across and outside of our institution. At the graduation last month, the ladies celebrated their own journey through the programme and the enrichment they had gained with an audience of line managers, mentors and senior management. We cannot wait to see what they go on to achieve next. Well done! Zoe Taylor Colleagues from The Knowledge Hub (Egypt) in CoventryPeter Harrison and colleagues from the Academic Development Team have recently been supporting colleagues from our new partners at The Knowledge Hub in Egypt. Three of our new Egyptian colleagues, Mohamed Elshafey, Sameh Farid and Hoda Hassan, came to Coventry for a month to work with Coventry staff and learn about “The Coventry Way”. Two CU staff, who will be moving to Egypt, Stratis Kanarachos and Toby Mountain, joined up with our colleagues and staff from across FAH, EEC and the Academic Partnership Unit to inform the approach and develop learning materials for the foundation years they will be running from September at the Knowledge Hub. The Academic Development team supported the visit through workshops and personal development around approaches to teaching and learning, flipping the classroom, technology in teaching, teaching observation and student experience. The visit was a great success and was excellently organised and supported by Internationalisation staff in EEC and FAH.
