The ten-year strategy will be a blueprint for the priorities, actions and outcomes required to effectively tackle elder abuse in WA. It will also contribute to implementation of the National Plan to Respond to the Abuse of Older Australians. The guidelines complement the NSW, Australia edition of the Child Safety Good Practice Guide which provides practitioners, decision-makers, and legislators with an evidence-focused resource on which they can base their work, funding and recommendations. Just released - Australian Burden of Disease Study: impact and causes of illness and death in Australia 2015The report analyses the impact of more than 200 diseases and injuries in terms of living with illness or injury (non-fatal burden) and premature death from illness or injury (fatal burden). In 2015, Australians collectively lost 4.8 million years of healthy life due to living with or dying prematurely from disease and injury. Preventing domestic and family violence: action research reports from five Australian local government councilsThe Australia's National Research Organisation for Women's Safety has released a report that provides insights into DFV prevention work in the local government context. The report covers work undertaken both within council organisations and with the community. Know Injury ToolkitsKnow Injury has developed media toolkits to support Local Governments, community organisations and regional services to participate in injury prevention and community safety campaigns. Know Injury encourages you to get involved in an injury prevention or safety promotion campaign and promote the cause to your community by running activities, events or getting active on social media. Transitioning the new Aged Care Quality StandardsFrom 1 July 2019, the new Aged Care Quality Standards (Standards) will apply to all aged care services including residential care, home care and short-term restorative care, as well as services under the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care Program and the Commonwealth Home Support Programme. Grass Roots Falls FestivalThe festival provides an opportunity for health professionals and other staff across all settings, managers, educators, policy makers, and others with an interest in reducing the risk of falling among older people to enjoy sharing the latest ideas and innovative approaches in practice, research and falls prevention at the GrassRoots level. The festival focus is to support the broad falls prevention community to access current research, practice innovations, cutting edge work in falls prevention and management and other exciting GrassRoots falls prevention initiatives that are happening in Australia and overseas. The program will feature presentations from across the residential aged care, hospital and community settings. The Grass Roots Falls Festival will be held on 19 & 20 September 2019 in Fremantle. 14th Australasian Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion ConferenceThe Australian Injury Prevention Network (AIPN) will be hosting the 14th Australasian Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion Conference in Brisbane from 25-27 November 2019. With a theme of Pushing the Boundaries, this conference will challenge the traditional injury prevention paradigms to examine future disruptions and opportunities for injury prevention.Western Australia Rural and Remote Mental Health Conference 2019Taking place in Albany, WA, 16 Oct - 18 October 2019, the biennial Western Australia (WA) Rural and Remote Mental Health Conference 2019 will be hosted by the WA Country Health Service (WACHS). The focus of the conference will be to address the vital issues of trauma, recovery, and youth suicide prevention, as well as a range of broader issues relevant to all those working, or caring for, country people. Climate Health WA Inquiry The WA Department of Health announced in March 2019 their Climate Health WA Inquiry, to investigate the implications of climate change, including more frequent and intense weather events, on health. The aim of the Inquiry is to review the current planning and response capacity of the health system in relation to the health impacts of climate change, and make recommendations for improvement with respect to climate change mitigation and public health adaptation strategies.
