Kia ora ,

The Prime Minister confirmed yesterday that Auckland will stay in Alert Level 4 lockdown until 11.59 pm on Tuesday, 14 September.  The Northland region also remains in Alert Level 4 until at least Thursday while the remainder of New Zealand moves to Alert Level 3 from 11.59pm tonight.

This means a continuation of remote teaching and learning which for some of us can be overwhelming and a challenging experience.

There are a number of services and resources available so I encourage you to reach out to Student Council also.

Lupe Kautoke
Pacific Student Representative

Warm Pasifika greetings, my name is Lupe Kautoke and I am your Pacific representative.. My identity is rooted in the Kingdom of Tonga, where I come from the villages of Fasi Moe Afi, Kolomotu’a and Kolofo’ou. I grew up on the west side of Tāmaki Makaurau and I am in my third year of the Bachelor of Social Practice degree.

As the Pacific representative, my role is to be a microphone for the voices of our Pacific students and to work alongside our student council and awesome Unitec staff. I want to ensure that our Pacific students have an enriching and rewarding experience here at Unitec.

In my role, I acknowledge the diversity of our Pacific nations and the uniqueness that each of these nations carry. Which is why I think it is so important to ensure that more of our Pacific voices are being heard.

One of my goals as Pacific rep is to bring our Pacific students together and establish our village here at Unitec. So that Unitec can be a place where we feel welcomed and appreciated. If you’re keen to be a part of the village, keep an eye out for some news about our Pasifika Associations. But for now,  stay safe and stay connected to your friends and loved ones, during this lockdown.

To our Pasifika communities, thank you for being so proactive in our responses to this outbreak. As Pasifika people, we know the importance of taking care of our loved ones. Our high rates of vaccinations and testing is a testament to this. The pandemic brings with it many challenges, to all aspects of our well-being. But just as our ancestors navitgated the great seas, we too can navigate these trying times.

Faka’apa’apa atu,

Lupe
