This Sacrament is a brilliant opportunity for families to reconnect with the Eucharist and to share their family joy with the whole Parish community. · 7 teams of students attended the Perth North Metro RoboCup event at Chisholm College. Students competed across all fields including Onstage Performance, Line Rescue and Soccer. · Winter Lightning Carnival played at three locations last Friday with Soccer, Football and Netball being played by our Year 6 students. Each teacher reported the outstanding level of sportsmanship from our school leaders. One teacher’s email to me about the football team includes “The footy team had a fantastic day today at the winter carnival. They ended the day undefeated after playing 7 games against teams from different schools all over Perth. The team consisted of 17 boys and 1 girl who played consistently all day with only a 20 minute break for lunch. Not once did anyone complain or say they didn't want to play. The highlight of day for me was the sportsmanship shown throughout the day by all team members. They were continually encouraging and congratulating each other. After lunch, they took it upon themselves to try to ensure that every team member had the opportunity to score a goal. They are such an amazing and inspiring group of kids and I couldn't have been more proud of them.” · Tournament of Mind Squad has met frequently over the past three weeks and the Tournament of Mind Team letters went out this week. The Teams will now meet to develop further their collaboration skills and to begin to work on the ‘problem’ they need to solve. · The School Choir has been busy rehearsing and preparing for our Masses as well as the Performing Arts Festival in Term 3. Many of our students, groups and classes are participating in this festival and celebration of The Arts. · Student Art work has been selected and framed and hung in our school reception area. These art pieces brighten our school entrance and are a great example of the range of artistic talent our students have. The display will change regularly and parents will have an opportunity to purchase their child’s framed artwork. Look out for sculpture and ceramic displays next term. · The Year Fives and Pre-Primary students are part of the Better Buddies Program. The two year program fosters positive relationships between children of different ages. Our interactions (mainly buddy lunches and a termly buddy activity linked to the curriculum ) develop important skills and values. Our goal is that our children become more empathetic and realize the effect their behaviour can have on people. Buddy time is our favourite time. I am very proud of the range of opportunities provided for our students by the talented and professional teachers and staff of Our Lady of Grace. As always we partner with you as parents, the first educators of your children, in the Catholic education of all our students. It’s a great journey! Gabrielle Doyle Congratulations to the students who received Merit Awards at last week's assembly. Cake Stall: Thank you to the parents who supported the cake stall held last week. A total of $511.55 was raised for the Pre-Primary classes. Chess Tournament: Our Lady of Grace School competed in a Chess Tournament at St Paul's Primary School last Wednesday. St. Paul’s won with 27 wins closely followed by OLG 20 wins and St Thomas 3rd on 18 wins. The students behaved really well , played strong with great sportsmanship. Well done everyone. Thank you to the parents and grandparents who helped with transport to the event. On Wednesday 19th of June twelve OLG students from years 4, 5 and 6 were selected to participate in an interschool chess competition held at St Paul’s in Mount Lawley. It was a very busy day! We each had to play eight rounds of chess against top chess players from St Paul's and Saint Thomas primary schools. The competition was tough as some of the players were very advanced - they had clearly been playing chess for a long time. OLG put in a good effort and finished second overall and I was lucky to receive the Countback Conqueror Award. Overall it was a very successful day and I was proud to be a part of the OLG Chess Team. I would like to thank Mrs Sherlock and Mr Brown for making this event possible. Also, a big thank you to the parent
volunteers who either supervised or provided transportation. Finally, a big thank you to the Chess Team for trying their best and having fun at the same time, Well done Team! Robocup Library Roster Rhyme Time and It’s All About Play 0 - 4 years. We had a fabulous introduction to Rhyme Time followed by It’s All About Play in our new venue the Pre K room. There was lots of rhyme and movement followed by lots of play with mums and Grans enjoying reading, the home corner, play dough and the outside play area. The sandpit was a hit as were the blocks and shaker making. We look forward to our next session on Friday 5th July. Hope to see you you there. Please find attached the Canteen Menu Alternatively you can place your child's order in the class canteen bucket.
