How long should they be on puppy/kitten food for? What about bones for dogs? Is your dog allergic to something? For many years “Tux biscuits and dog roll” has been the go-to diet for Pet owners across New Zealand but in the last few decades animal nutrition science has come a long way. Animals may grow and survive on some of these diets but our aim is to have them thrive and promote longevity. Dogs and cats require nourishment from the same essential nutrient groups as humans namely; protein, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and most importantly fresh water. However, the ratios at which these different nutrients are needed by different species and even different breeds within a species differ greatly. Every pet is as unique as a fingerprint and will require a diet that is suited to their individual needs. A Huntaway in full work will require a much different diet than the little chihuahua that graces your lap. Win a 3kg bag of Black Hawk!At Black Hawk everything they do is about naturally nourishing pets from the inside out. The natural holistic recipes are specially formulated to optimise pet health and wellbeing. We're giving away a 3kg bag of dog food. To enter follow the link below to our Facebook page. Here is a story about one of our patients, Charlie, he ate a corn cob and became very sick. My name is Charlie, and not too long ago I had to go to the Amberley Clinic because I was vomiting and very quiet, so my owner was quite worried about me. You see a few weeks before my visit I had found a delicious Corn Cob in the rubbish bin and had eaten it; but the corn cob got stuck in my intestines. The lovely vets at Amberley after doing some bloods and x-rays to see what was making me feel ill saw that I had a blockage. So into surgery we went, and I was lucky my owner had brought me in because the stuck corn cob was doing all sorts of damage to my intestines. It was so bad parts of it had to be removed. I woke up on a Continuous Rate Infusion of pain killers (so the fluids would slowly keep my pain killers topped up so I felt no pain). I felt so much better I went home, unfortunately, I wasn’t out of the woods yet… Puppy PreschoolPuppy Preschool is a fantastic way to create a bond, learn useful tips and socialise your puppy, as well as get your puppy used to visiting the vet clinic. We run these courses at our Amberley & Culverden clinics, call these clinics to find out when the next course is running.
