Hey buds, it's Andy from Lucky Paper.
A couple of things to talk about in this edition of the newsletter!
Longtime subscribers to this newsletter will remember my lengthy screed about how conflicted I was about selling our first playmat. I fundamentally don't want this hobby to turn into a business, and also find my values are often incompatible with many of the structures businesses are meant to interact with. Close listeners of the podcast will also remember how badly I got screwed by FedEx and Shippo on international shipping with the first batch. After that whole fiasco I swore off doing fulfillment ever again for my own sanity.
Over the intervening 20 months I've gotten a lot of requests to do another print run of the playmats. These requests spiked especially hard in the wake of Sam's video, in which he features his copy prominently. This got my gears turning on whether I should, against my better judgment, figure out how to do a second run.
Then, mercifully, I saw an opportunity to do a second run without having to do it myself nor partner with some big, faceless, company that didn't align with my values. I don't know Cal from Stitcher's Supply well, but he seems like a swell guy with similar values, so when I saw him working with Sam from Rhystic Studies on a t-shirt, I slid into his DMs to see if he might be interested in running the second edition of the playmat. Cal was down and has been a real peach throughout the entire process thus far.
It was important to me that the second run of the playmat be different than the first so each version of the playmat is unique. For this round, the metallic foil ribbon has been replaced with a rainbow gradient. I also added some highlights to the skeletons themselves as if the ribbon were glowing. I'm really happy with how it turned out.
I've also been hard at work laying the groundwork for Lucky Paper's Cube Fellowship. A lot of work has gone into the language describing the program on the website, so I won't do a worse job of explaining it here, but please check it out and consider supporting the Fellowship and getting a pin. I'm really proud of this.
