A Message from Mr.  Jerry Salvador, Head of School

We’ve had a terrific first week at Brookes Westshore.  Our focus has been on Building our Brookes Community.  Thus, we have spent the week getting to know each other, getting to know our classes and activities programme, and for our non-resident students, getting to know Victoria. As part of our students Discovering Victoria, last Saturday our boarders visited iconic Butchart’s Gardens and not only experienced the lovely gardens but managed to see the exciting musical fireworks extravaganza.

Orientation on campus was geared towards course selection and a general introduction to this terms activities programme. Students spent time in their cross-grade advisory groups – a pathway for community support throughout the year. Advisory groups this year will be organized slightly different with a smaller range of grade groupings. Advisors will be taking a greater role in mentoring and providing guidance to our students.

On Wednesday, the entire school visited beautiful East Sooke Park. It was a fun day filled with hiking, a visit to the ancient First Nations petroglyphs, a curious encounter with local sea lions, and a lovely picnic on the beach.

Today, we will be ending the first week of classes with a welcome back BBQ.  We hope all the local families and, of course, all those international families still in Victoria, will come and join us.  This is a great opportunity to meet the teachers and staff.

We have laid a strong foundation for a successful year; building mutual support and understanding across our community. What a wonderful first week at Brookes Westshore and we look forward to a brilliant 2019-2020.

Sincerely,

Jerry Salvador
Head of School

A Message from Brookes Westshore Communications

We are excited to launch our first school-wide video providing our community with a glimpse into our caring and inclusive community, cross-cultural environment, rigorous academic programs and a look into the modern facilities offered to all students. A home away from home, Brookes Westshore provides a family atmosphere where all students are encouraged to unlock their potential.

- Brookes Westshore will continue to keep parents connected by distributing the Gryphon Gazette, the Brookes Westshore Newsletter twice per month on a Friday. The next newsletter will be distributed on September 20, 2019.

- Information and news regarding events will be communicated to parents two weeks in advance via the newsletter to give parents time to plan and participate in events.

- Brookes Westshore continues to grow and innovate our communications to ensure that parents can easily access relevant news and information.

We are always looking for ways to innovate and grow parent communications. Brookes Westshore is currently investigating a private, school mobile application that will allow parents to access school news, events, social media posts, as well as school policies and important information regarding uniforms and key contacts. Parents also have the opportunity to opt-in to mobile notifications of emails, and SMS receipt of important information. We look forward to sharing more information in the next month with you.
