The Social Value Principles provide the foundation to make decisions driven by value to the lives of people, rather than just traditional financial return. These well established social accounting principles are designed to promote accountability and maximise the social value you create.- Involve stakeholders– Inform what gets measured, how it is measured and valued in an account of social value by involving stakeholders.
- Understand what changes – Articulate how change is created and evaluate this through evidence gathered, recognising positive and negative changes as well as those that are intended and unintended.
- Value the things that matter – Making decisions about allocating resources between different options must recognise the values of stakeholders. Value
is the relative importance of different outcomes. Value is informed by stakeholders’ preferences.
- Only include what is material – Determine what information and evidence must be included in the accounts to give a true and fair picture, enabling stakeholders to draw reasonable conclusions about impact.
- Do not over-claim – Only claim the value that activities are responsible for creating.
- Be transparent – Demonstrate the basis on which the analysis may be considered accurate and honest, and show that it will be reported to and discussed with
stakeholders.
- Verify the result – Ensure appropriate independent assurance.
We dedicate this newsletter to the Social Value Principles. This newsletter is where you will find dedicated resources, community events, and training all about social value - so read on.

3S: Manage for Impact Conference 2018, Barcelona3S: Manage for Impact is an inspirational and interactive two-day event focused on impact management. The first of the Stone Soup Recipes for Impact series, this conference will bring us beyond measurement to more effective management of the impact we seek to create. It is the first event of its kind in Europe to unite best practice and collaborative learning.
When & Where?
In beautiful Barcelona on 27-28th September 2018 At ESADE Business School
Why?
Impact metrics and methodologies are under constant discussion; it is time to move from simply measuring impact to managing it. Impact is the ability to set objectives and measure the changes you generate. Management is actually using the data you collect from your measurement to actively optimize and improve your performance to achieve greater social impact.
Who for?
3S: Manage for Impact is an inclusive event designed for any organisation working within and/or financing the impact economy: social purpose organisations, social enterprises and non-profit of all sizes, impact investors, venture philanthropists, financial institutions, corporates & CSR teams, public administrations, service providers and academics.
Conference goals:
1. Increase the capacity of actors in the impact economy to improve their value through efficient and effective impact management strategies.
2. Strengthen the impact community across Europe (and beyond).
3. Improve the value chain of impact across organistions and countries.

Not to be missed: Social investment in affordable and quality long term care, Sprint Conference.
The SPRINT consortium is inviting policy makers, researchers, care providers and other key stakeholders, to discuss the challenges associated with the application of the concept of social investment to the provision and resourcing of long-term care.
The EU faces a major challenge: How can it deliver the new social right to affordable long-term care of good quality as its working-age population shrinks and the share of those of retirement age expands? Long-term care is a long-term issue: Eurostat projects that by 2080 those aged 65 and older will account for 29.1% of the population (compared with 19.2% now) and the share of those aged 80 and older will more than double (from 5.4% to 12.7%). Social investment has been a strategic policy response to new social risks. What does this approach have to offer for tackling this challenge? This is an opportunity to hear and share new ideas and to network with others interested in this issue. Thursday 7 June, 3.00pm - 6.45pm

- The Global Accelerator Learning Initiative (GALI) has just released its third report on the effects of startup acceleration. The report, “Accelerating the Flow of Funds into Early-Stage Ventures: An Initial Look at Program Differences and Design Choices,” takes a first look at the short-term impacts of accelerator programs and how various program design choices correspond with the performance of early-stage ventures. Read the report here.
- The Global Accelerator Learning Initiative (GALI)—a partnership between the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) and Social Enterprise @ Goizueta at Emory University—released its third major report about what is working in startup acceleration. One of the report’s major findings is that, in most cases, $1 spent on an accelerator program translates into more than $1 of additional funds for participating entrepreneurs. Emmanuel Osigwe, Ph.D. candidate at the University of Otago, New Zealand, needs participants in his research on how organisations like members of Social Value International are impacting communities. For convenience, most questions will require simply checking boxes. At no stage will your organisation or your name be used in the research (pseudonyms will be used). The research will be used in a report of findings highlighting industry practices and processes, and indicating areas of improvement that might benefit Social Value International. If you are interested in receiving a copy of the report, please email Emmanuel after completing the survey.
Take Emmanuel's survey, part of his Ph.D. thesis 'examining the effects of catalytic innovation on creating social impact.'
