An ideas paper has been developed for a new Gallery Precinct, Esplanade Dining Precinct and a renewed Esplanade Parklands to promote discussion around the three proposed projects. Mother's Day bike rideGrab the family and come along to Council's free Mother's Day Community Cycle. There will be a 5km and 18km family fun ride, starting and finishing at Goomboora Park, Brinsmead. The ride begins at 8am on Mother's Day - Sunday 13 May - and there will be a free breakfast and loads of giveaways. Free mulch giveawayA mulched garden is a happy garden! Pick up free shredded green waste offer from 18-21 May at Council's waste transfer stations. Show your support for our community with a voluntary gold coin donation to OzHarvest to help feed those in need. Full details Tanks Markets return this weekendAfter a wet season hiatus, the Tanks Arts Centre Markets return this Sunday 29 April from 9am to 2pm. Showcasing a blend of local art, craft, produce, vintage clothing, collectibles and local natural health products and treatments, the markets are a relaxing way to spend a Sunday morning. Market stalls line Tanks promenade on Collins Avenue, with live entertainment provided by local musicians. Future market dates are: 27 May, 24 June (Body, Mind and Soul), 29 July, 30 September, 28 October and 25 November. More info on markets in Cairns

Cairns ECOfiesta celebrates everything sustainability in North Queensland, with a special emphasis this year on the 30th anniversary of the Wet Tropics World Heritage listing. Find a best friendIf you're ready to meet your new best friend, save this date - Operation Fur-Ever Home returns on Saturday 2 June. Council is partnering with eight local re-homing agencies, which will have dogs and cats available for adoption at Cannon Park Racecourse. Sewer upgrades to benefit older suburbsA $7.63 million sewerage network upgrade will benefit properties in Earlville, Westcourt, Bungalow and Mooroobool. The project will address overflow issues that can occur during heavy rain. It's the latest in a series of sewerage upgrades across the region, with council having spent $56 million over the past six years on sewer network improvements. Council maintains 1260 kilometres of sewer mains across the region. Applications for the Cairns Multicultural Month Grant will open on Tuesday 1 May. Eligibility criteria and application guidelines available on Council's website. Have your say and help Council make better informed decisions about the current and future services and facilities offered at Cairns Libraries. Contribute to flood studyCouncil has commissioned an independent review of the flood event on 27 March, with the outcomes to assist planning for future severe weather events. Residents are asked to submit their photos, videos, rainfall and other weather data via a dedicated email address, flooding@cairns.qld.gov.au. Please include an exact location or address, and the relevant date and time. Submissions close on Friday 4 May. |
