Sex and Successful Aging
Sexual enjoyment and interest may subside as people get older, but that doesn't have to stop them from aging successfully, new research suggests.
The Journal of Sexual Medicine study involved 2,461 people in Europe between the ages of 60 and 75 years. The researchers used a model of successful aging that included social connectedness, absence of depression, and life satisfaction.
The participants indicated how they would rate their interest and overall enjoyment of sex at that moment compared to how they felt ten years earlier.
Generally, sexual interest and enjoyment had waned. But the research team still found a positive association between these changes and successful aging.
