98.2%: global number of Facebook active users who used “any kind of mobile phone” during April 2020 to access the social network. Only 1.8% used a laptop or PC.

2010: year when edible cutlery was developed by the founder of India’s Bakey’s company, on discovering that 120 billion plastic utensils were used annually in the country.

$4.5 trillion: anticipated value of ecommerce by 2021, almost doubled from $2.3 trillion in 2017. It is estimated that 95% of purchases will be made online by 2040.

Start plogging!

Plogging or eco-running combines running with picking up litter. Started in Sweden, it’s becoming a global fitness craze with runners also doing squats and bends while picking up any rubbish they pass. The word comes from the combination of the Swedish word “plocka” (which means “pick up”) and “jogging”, and it can also be done while walking, cycling, or hiking. Basically, it just means exercise plus picking up trash - good for you and the planet!

The South African National Space Agency (SANSA) is partnering with the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to develop a Deep Space Station in the Western Cape, designed to support human missions to the moon, Mars and beyond.
