ASUM COVID-19 Guidelines | AJUM | MBS changes | CAHPU first | Best US memory | Upcoming webinar

Dear ,
While ASUM has played an instrumental role in ultrasound guidelines during COVID-19 pandemic with both the WFUMB and ISUOG, today we have published guidelines specifically for our region. Thanks to our publisher Wiley for supporting free access to these guidelines (as well as other COVID-19 related material).
COVID-19:Infection prevention and control guidance for all ultrasound practitioners
In addition you will find resources on our COVID-19 page that will further support you in offering ultrasound services safely: A risk assessment template (for both patients and accompanying persons) and letter including a referral letter where examinations are truncated due to minimising the exam while still answering the clinical question.

AJUM May 2020 issue will not be printed
|
|
|
ASUM is receiving regular updates from our publisher, Wiley, as they continue to monitor the impacts of COVID-19 on scholarly publishing operations. Today we want to share an update from Wiley on the printing and distribution of AJUM.
Wiley have notified us that due to government restrictions on non-essential businesses in Singapore the printer there for AJUM has been asked to close and is currently unable to operate.
This means that AJUM will not go to print as scheduled, and member print copies will be delayed. However, the May issue of AJUM will be available online and all COVID-19 articles will be free access, including the ASUM guidelines.

Congratulations to Fion Lau
|
|
|
Congratulations to Fion Lau who has become the first Australian Intensive Care Physiotherapist to be awarded the Certificate in Allied Health Performed Ultrasound (CAHPU).
Fion is now accredited to perform Lung and Diaphragm ultrasounds at a patients' bedside at Armadale Hospital’s (WA) Intensive Care unit.
This achievement is the result of collaboration between the Emergency and Intensive Care departments.
Fion was mentored by Dr Ashes Mukerjee, an ED consultant, who is passionate about constantly improving care for patients and educating practitioners in ultrasound.
We asked Fion if the CAHPU had made a difference to her practice and she made the following comment:
"Yes, it does, knowing now I have a more sensitive tool to help differentiating the common lung pathologies that cardiorespiratory physiotherapists encounter, it makes me more confident to say when we are going to make a difference and knowing when to escalate to others. POCUS helps clinicians to provide timely care.
I am now working cohesively with Dr Ashes to promote POCUS in our hospital and we hope to see more and more POCUS clinicians".
We would also like to acknowledge Dr George Ntoumenopoulos from St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney who developed the syllabus for the unit.
