Education and Labor Committee Markup

This week, on Thursday September 9, 2021, at 12 PM ET, the House Education and Labor Committee will mark up the proposal they have drafted following the reconciliation instructions included in the fiscal year 2022 budget resolution.

The proposal includes several provisions that will benefit community colleges and students, including:

  • Free community college tuition to eligible students through America’s College Promise  
  • $9 billion for retention and completion grants
  • $2 billion for community college and industry partnerships grants
  • $500 increase to the maximum Pell grant for Award Years 2022-2023 - 2029-2030
  • $3.6 billion for Adult Basic Education
  • $3 billion for Perkins CTE
  • Makes DACA recipients eligible for Title IV financial aid programs 
  • $5 billion for Apprenticeships, Youth Apprenticeships, and Pre-Apprenticeships

Ways and Means Committee Markup

This week, on Thursday September 9, 2021, at 10 AM ET, the House Ways and Means Committee will mark up the proposal they have drafted following the reconciliation instructions included in the fiscal year 2022 budget resolution. The markup is expected to continue on Friday September 10, 2021, at 10 AM ET.

Notably, the proposal includes $9 billion over seven years starting in FY 2022 for the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community Colleges Career Training (TAACCCT) grant.
