Healthy Tip: Get Your Daily D
Vitamin D is critical to your body’s bones and immune system, and most Americans don't get enough. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium, which is very important for strong bones. Vitamin D also assists your immune system to maintain your resistance against certain diseases. You can get your vitamin D level checked with a simple blood test.

Your body produces vitamin D naturally from exposure of just 20 minutes a day (with sunscreen) to sunlight, but what should you do during the many sunless days of winter? To start, you can increase foods such as salmon, egg yolks, shrimp, and dairy products fortified with vitamin D.

But it can be hard to fulfill your body’s vitamin D needs through exposure to the sun and food alone, so you’ll want to take a supplement especially when there’s no sunshine. You can take Ultimate Lean Body every day for plenty of D, plus enough B12 to give you sustained energy when you need it most!
Local Corner
It was a very chilly Thanksgiving Day for the Atlanta Half Marathon. Our own Rosina Navarro (shown above), who works in the ThinNow store in Acworth, was one of about 11,000 runners who braved 18 degrees that morning to get out and “earn their turkey”!

“I had a great time and ran my personal best time at 2 hours, 22 minutes! Running the Half was one of my goals to continue staying healthy – and I did it,” said Rosina, “It was a little scary at first, but once you start, you remember everything you’ve worked for. I’m now training for my next Half in March.”
In addition to the Atlanta Half Marathon, the event, sponsored by the Atlanta Track Club, featured the Thanksgiving Day 5K, the Mashed Potato Mile for children ages 7 to 12, and the Gravy Gallop for kids ages 6 and under.

Most cities and many small towns across the country have events like this throughout the year, including walks and other activities. Check out www.Active.com to find an event near you!

Game Day Beefy Asian Sliders

These delicious sliders are perfect for any time, but they’re especially satisfying at parties where you might be tempted with foods you can’t have during VLCD. Wrap them in as much lettuce as you’d like or serve them on a slice of onion. Make these for Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 2) and you’ll have a much easier time passing up the buffet.
