No matter how you feel about them, January is the time some folks make themselves a list of New Year's resolutions.
Renee checked in with the Board to ask who might share the resolutions they have planned for 2022.
Read on and then let us know what upcoming goals you have in mind!
Let's start the new year out right with a granola recipe that's worth getting out of bed for. It's not called Favorite Granola for nothing!
Thanks to member Janel Anderson of Mountain Rebalance for sharing her recipe!
You're going to want to keep an eye on young Sam- at age 10 he's already a deeply gifted athlete as well as one of our favorite volunteers. (This kid has mad pancake-flipping skills as we learned at this year's Broken Arrow pancake breakfast!)
Read on to learn more about this junior DPMR member, his Leopard Gecko named Reese and his aspirations to run Western States some day!
Book of the Month - I Hate Running and You Can Too
It's hard to believe a book with this title would make it's way onto the reading list of any DPMR member... but Aude has a great review about the value of the wisdom of this month's reading pick.
Whether or not you share his same views about having a "complicated relationship" with running, author Leonard shares his thoughts and motivations in a humorous and engaging manner. Like Aude- we think you'll find plenty here to quote!
Lucas Horan was a dedicated ultra-runner and beloved DPMR member, with a seemingly ceaseless curiosity and openness to meeting new people and sharing wild adventures.
One of his proudest racing achievements was completing the 200-mile TOR des Geants race in the Italian Alps- twice.
To honor his legacy a scholarship has been established to fund a runner's dream of participating in the TOR des Geants mountain race.
Please consider a donation to help sustain this scholarship in memory of Lucas. He believed that if you think you can do this race, you can do this race. So in the spirit of Lucas- maybe you'll also apply to run this race yourself?
With a record-breaking 16+ feet of snow in December it's a safe bet that you'll want to be out on some snowshoes this season.
DPMR has a Member Snowshoe Loan Program so you can borrow a pair of Atlas Run Snowshoes for free!
And keep an eye on the DPMR calendar for upcoming group runs too!
A frosty January day is a great time to read about warm Hawaiian adventures- so sit back and read along as Bri takes you on her sea to summit run from the sands of a Maui beach all the way to the top of the famed Haleakalā volcano.
California International Marathon 2021: A Return to Racing
A DPMR favorite- many members finish their year with running the California International Marathon "down the hill" in Sacramento.
Christie Jackson is reminded that she loves racing as she successfully returns to run CIM after six years of some of life's other distractions.
