Reflection

Yesterday the whole school gathered in the hall for a special Remembrance Day service.

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”

Greg's Message

Hello Parents and Friends of St. Anne’s
The Glee Club entertained the pre-schoolers from Glass St Kindergarten last Wednesday. The Glee Club visited Glass St and sang a few Christmas songs to the group. Well done to the Glee Club, Bron Seedeen, Helen Wentworth and Tara Smith for their support. The Glee Club have had another successful and enjoyable year - their singing at school masses has been a genuine highlight.

Religion

Remembrance Day was on Monday and we had a whole school gathering in the Multi Purpose hall to commemorate this special occasion.
The Liturgy Group helped to set up and lead the service and were ably helped by Max F, Francesco, Hannah and Jessica with the readings.
The children’s behaviour throughout the service was impeccable. The reverence shown during the playing of the Last Post and the minute’s silence was a real credit to all that were there.

A reminder that on Sunday the 17th November, we have our last Hospitality Mass for the year. This one will be hosted by the current Foundation children and next year’s incoming Foundation students will be introduced to both the school and parish community. Hope to see you there and please don’t forget to bring along a plate to share for morning tea afterwards. Of course it goes without saying, that this invitation is extended to ALL children!

Student Wellbeing

Today is World Kindness Day.

Professor Jane Dutton explains that we all have a psychological need to feel respected, valued and appreciated. Investing into a healthy support network is one of the best things we can do to enhance our own wellbeing. Helping and being kind to others improves our connectedness and makes us happier (Lyubomirsky 2007). On a biochemical level, the good feeling we get is due to elevated levels of dopamine in the brain, so we get a natural high, often referred to as "Helper's High" (D. R. Hamilton, 2011).

A very powerful way for us to foster more kindness in our lives is to think of times that we ourselves have been kind to others. In a study done by Adam Grant at Wharton Business school (2013), people who were asked to remember the times that they themselves had been kind gave more generously to others than those people who were asked to remember times when others had been kind to them. Recalling our actions of kindness helps us reinforce and build a vivid self-image of ourselves as a kind person. We then find ways to live up to the ‘kind person’ image and become more kind.
Kindness and generosity are contagious
In addition to increasing happiness and health and reducing depression, generosity has been found to be contagious. Receiving help increases the likelihood of being generous towards a stranger. Researchers have found that when we receive an act of kindness, we are quite likely to ‘pay it forward’ (Tsvetkova & Macy 2014; Jordan et al 2013).

Cybersafety

The government website has updated their parent support and added a young people section to help guide with online security and social media use. It is well worth a look even as a prompt to start a conversation at home.
