From the Director’s Desk Literacy Week has arrived! This next week is full of fun events from morning to afternoon. Parent involvement is welcomed and appreciated! Check out the schedule in this newsletter for where you can be an active participant and/or an audience member. A huge thank you goes out to our Non-Fiction Committee for putting this week together. PSG is having their second bake sale next Friday, March 2nd (Dr. Seuss’ Birthday!). The Bake Sale will take place following lunch. Please send some money with your child! Also, PSG is looking for donations. Bring all
donations to school starting in the morning. Please contact me if you need further information. Our food drive this week raised nearly 700 items of food which were distributed to more than 20 families in and around Dushanbe. Mavzuna Khatamova, our 3 year old teacher, accompanied the group “Kindness” as they distributed the items. She captured the story through photos that you can see in this newsletter. Thank you QSI Dushanbe Community for opening your hearts and cupboards to those in need. Our friends from the Down Syndrome school visited us this week. The 12/13 year old class had the opportunity to dance and play some rhythm instruments with these students. This is the first time the students
have visited our campus, and we are looking forward to their next visit. Check out the photos!
Parent Teacher Conference sign ups will begin early next week. Please watch for an email from Gulnoza inviting you to contact the office to set an appointment. Also, a new round of 8th period activities will begin on March 6th. Sign ups for these activities will also be during next week. Our Navruz Celebration will be on Friday, March 16. Please mark it in your calendars. Families will be invited to participate in a lunch and performance celebration on Friday afternoon. Ticket reservations begin next week. Enjoy your weekend QSI Dushanbe community! Kim Black

Dearest QSI parents,
The Parent Support Group is looking to make some quiet spaces around the different school areas, where students can take a break and sit in a quiet corner and read or do homework. With the hustle and bustle throughout the school day, it’s nice for children to have a place available for some quiet time.
In order to make this happen, PSG is looking for anyone who is wanting to donate their slightly used rugs or furniture (chairs/sofa, small tables). We thought that it would be an eco friendly way to recycle any items that you felt like you didn’t need anymore, before going to purchase any new items. If you are able to be so generous to help us put in this endeavor please contact Lesya Covert at Coverts_2000@yahoo.com.
Sincerely,
The Parent Support Group of QSI
Children study Russian language from the age of 5 and through Secondary. Every day they learn new vocabulary, sing Russian songs, make projects, play games, read and translate stories and enjoy their time during their Russian class. It seems that Russian is quite popular between the students of QSI. They try to use Russian talking to the guards and our cooks. Students have an opportunity not just to work in their classes, but also present their projects to the other Russian levels. However they don’t just study Russian through reading, writing and listening but also get to know about Russian culture, national holidays, dances, food, clothes and music.
Atelier Comics Students learning French have prepared a comic for the International Comic Festival of Angoulême, the first comics festival in Europe. Their 2-page comic tells the story of the long travel of Sam, the tree, “Le long voyage de Sam l’arbre.” Students were inspired by the eco-committee activities with recycling paper and have decided to narrate the story of a tree transformed into paper for QSI school and then, ended up being recycled. Many thanks to the students who were very committed and full of great ideas and resources!
