Sr. Lynn wins Scholastic Books prize

Sr. Lynn was recently honored by Scholastic Books as part of Principal Appreciation Month. PTG President Julie Evans wrote a glowing nomination for the contest.

An excerpt from the nomination praised Sr. Lynn:

Dedicated. Devout. Determined. These are the words that come to mind when I think of Sister Lynn, Principal of Sacred Heart Elementary School. She is a wonderful leader ensuring a quality education for our children.

The prize, a Cheryl’s Cookie Tower, was recently delivered to Sr. Lynn at school.

International Connections open to all

Thanks to everyone who attended the first event of the year for International Connections. We are fortunate at Sacred Heart Elementary to have a very diverse and international group of parents and students which makes a rich environment with many opportunities to encounter people of different languages and cultures.

We had a great time at our coffee gathering with people from Japan, Korea, Poland, Taiwan, and the U.S. We spent time getting to know each other for the first time. The main topic of conversation was a discussion about what we are interested in and what events we would like to see in the future.  We are now planning additional activities and we look forward to seeing more people at our next event.

We also participated in the International Day of Peace at Sacred Heart. The Japanese and Korean traditional food and snacks provided by families were a big hit.

Watch for information about upcoming events and join us.

A new Scrip schedule is in this envelope for the second quarter, October 28 to January 16.

Girls' volleyball finishes strong

Varsity Black team

The girls finished the regular season with a record of 12-4, earning a spot in the Diocesan Playoffs.

A first-round victory over St Louise de Marillac carried the team to a second-round match against the No. 1 ranked team in the Diocese, St Alphonsus (Red). While the Crusaders played each point with their typical grit and determination, in the end St Alphonsus won. The Crusaders finished the season with a record of 13-5.

Great job girls!

Varsity Red team

The Girls Varsity Red team survived the crucible of the North Section 2 with determination and an unshakable positive vibe.

The team displayed an uncanny sense of the net with their spikes and front court play. They produced powerful, consistent serves and 'dug' the ball from anywhere on the court.

The improvements to their game were only surpassed by their team spirit. Way to go!

JV team

The JV team also made it to the playoffs and made a strong showing before being eliminated. No doubt they'll be back next year ready to play hard.

Great job!

Soccer teams finishing a great season

We are pleased to announce the completion of SHES soccer’s first fall regular season.

A big hand to the 15 JV players who played a great season filled with lots of effort and learning. The team looked much better at the end of the season than the first game. The level of fun with a team who never gave up made the coaches and parents very proud.

The varsity season is not over yet. The 14 varsity players under the guidance of Coach Hunter Simpson finished 6-1-1 season and earned a berth in the playoffs, which will be at Highmark Stadium during the November 7th weekend. Join us to cheer on the team!

Watch for information about joining the teams for the spring season.
