Outdoor dining to transform Nepean Highway for local businesses

Frankston City’s popular Do It Outdoors outdoor dining campaign will be expanded to outside hospitality venues on Nepean Highway, Frankston, with innovative installations offering something for everyone.

Council has collaborated closely with hospitality businesses and stakeholders to implement ‘parklets’ and extended kerbside dining.

The parklet design is the same as the ones currently in our City Centre on Wells Street and Beach Street and those in Station Street, Seaford. However, this is a larger area and Council is supplying all outdoor furniture for parklets along with furniture and umbrellas for kerbside dining areas

This is Do It Outdoors Extended Outdoor Dining 2.0 – a bright installation that will create a significant visual transformation along Nepean Highway and support the businesses as we head out of lockdown and restrictions begin to ease.

Helping hand: Council supports community organisations through COVID

Frankston City Council is directly supporting many local charities and not-for-profits with additional funding, to help them continue providing vital assistance during the pandemic.

This is in addition to extra funding for critical Council-run supports, including the Community Recovery Call Centre and Meals on Wheels service.

The funding comes from Council’s $9.128 million COVID Recovery Package — including $1.01 million to aid community recovery.

Last year, Mums Supporting Families in Need (MSFIN) received a $2,000 COVID-19 Urgent Relief Grant, to ensure they were able to keep supporting 400 – 600 people each month.

MSFIN responds to families in crisis with vital material aid, including clothing, linen, food, cots, car seats, prams, toiletries, cleaning products and other everyday essentials.

Works are rescheduled to recommence on 4 October and will take 3 weeks.

A Poem entitled 'Seaford Beach'

Summer brings us to an ice cold sea where

Eaves of silent dunes stand up tall

Against old friends raising their caps.

From the foreshore tea trees, along a track,

Over shimmering heat race feet to a cooler sand;

Room to be anywhere you care to be.

Dolphins can suddenly appear for you.

Birds, confident seabirds keep a distance.

Eyes rest upon the blue while others read.

All cares are on hold, somewhere else...while

Crisp food starts to steam in its white paper.

Have lunch, a swim, before the cares return.

—Robert Slaney

Council delivers Maternal and Child Health services during lockdown

Frankston City’s dedicated Maternal and Child Health nurses continue to deliver support, advice and key services during lockdown.

Coordinator Maternal and Child Health and Immunisation, Diana Wilson, said the safety and wellbeing of families and staff is paramount, adding all services are delivered in line with COVID safe practices.

Ms Wilson said: “The COVID pandemic has highlighted the value that the Maternal and Child Health Service provides young children and their families. The continued provision of health and developmental assessments, referrals and support to families has been particularly crucial at this time.

“We have adapted our service multiple times in line with the Department of Health advice, including complementing telehealth consultations with short face-to-face contact, minimising potential risk to clients and staff. The welfare of all is an utmost priority and COVID screening for each client is conducted prior to each appointment,” Ms Wilson said.
