Cambridge Science Festival

Booking is now open for the Cambridge Science Festival, a celebration of the boundaries being broken in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The 2012 programme features two weeks of free evening talks for adults and a mix of interactive family fun at open days on 17, 18 and 24 March, with events from mini hovercrafts to Robin Ince’s ‘Bad science book club.’

Cabaret evening with FLACK

University of Cambridge students including the group Students in Free Enterprise have been working with FLACK to support homeless people living in Cambridge to achieve their potential.  FLACK is a resource for training, support and access to Cambridge’s homeless community, as well as a monthly magazine featuring University events and local listings along with articles and artwork. The magazine is produced and written exclusively by Cambridge’s homeless community.

Tonight, join FLACK for “Through the Pinhole,” a cabaret evening of film, spoken word, music and visual art showcasing the talents of the City’s homeless community. A soft drink is included and wine will be available for purchase.

Piano Recital Fundraiser for Whitworth House

Since 1998, Whitworth House has provided support for vulnerable, homeless young women, offering secure accommodation in a family environment and assisting them toward training, employment and independent living.

A piano recital by David Earl in May will mark the final event in the Friends of Whitworth House Extension Appeal. Join the Mayor, the Mayoress and the Friends of Whitworth House to hear Earl’s performance of works by Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Debussy, as well as Earl’s own composition.

Study Charity and Social Enterprise Management at Anglia Ruskin University

News from Anglia Ruskin University: The Cert HE Charity and Social Enterprise Management is a practical university level course, designed by Anglia Ruskin and the third sector to develop the skills and knowledge required for management in charities, social enterprises, co-operatives and similar organisations.

The course aims to develop practical know-how and work-based skills as well as a strategic and academic outlook within a third sector context. The course is online and supported by two workshops at the Cambridge campus.

The next intake for the course will be May 2012. Applications are invited from people working within the third sector (including paid employees, trustees and board members), as well as public sector staff in services moving towards a mutual or social enterprise model.
