Rheumatoid Arthritis Affects Women's Sexual Function
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has a negative impact on women's sexual function, according to Turkish researchers.
Their study, published online in August in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, compared questionnaire data from two groups of women between the ages of 20 and 55. One group had RA; the other did not.
Questionnaire scores pertaining to sex tended to be lower in women with RA when compared those without, indicating poorer sexual function. Depression and severity of RA were particularly strong influencing factors.
The authors made several suggestions for clinical practice, including ways to decrease pain and improve sexual function.
