Click here My Isolation Diary By Emily Vogel (Giphy) Dear Diary, Between Prime Day and Emmy nominations, I forgot for a moment that America is starting to look worse than the time I tried to cut my own bangs during the pandemic. Luckily, this month I’m only focusing on the positives – like the fact that my hair is almost completely back to normal. I mean, sure, I maxed out my credit card during Amazon’s annual sale event, BUT I think I broke a record for the number of two-piece sets one can order in a 48-hour time-period. It’s called a #PositiveMindset, Aunt Linda, look it up. On another high note, we saw a number of awesome firsts at this year’s Emmy nominations Tuesday. While we still have a long way to go in terms of inclusion, things are looking up – and it’s only July! Check it out:

Sandra Douglass Moran Becomes NFL's First Black Woman President(AP Photo/John Locher) The Raiders have hired Las Vegas attorney Sandra Douglass Morgan to be their new team president, as she becomes the first Black woman to hold that title for an NFL franchise. “I definitely never want to be the last,” Morgan said, “and I want to get to a point where there is no more firsts.” Morgan emphasized leadership and full transparency during her introductory news conference at Allegiant Stadium. “We have so much more to do, and I’m excited to be at the helm of that growth and look forward to ushering in the new chapter for the Raiders,” Morgan said. “The fact is I have accepted this role because I believe in the promise of the Raiders, I believe in the future of the Raiders, and I believe in this organization’s tenets of community, integrity and, most of all, commitment to excellence.” Pregnant Texas Woman Cites Roe Reversal to Fight HOV Ticket, Saying Fetus (Jason Janik/The Dallas Morning News via AP) Brandy Bottone was recently driving down Central Expressway in Dallas, Texas, when she was stopped by a sheriff’s deputy at an HOV checkpoint to see whether there were at least two occupants per vehicle as mandated. When the sheriff looked around her car last month, she said he asked, “Is it just you or is someone else riding with you?” “I said, ‘Oh, there’s two of us,’” Bottone, 32, said. “And he said, ‘Where?’” Bottone, who was 34 weeks pregnant at the time, pointed to her stomach. Even though she said her “baby girl is right here,” Bottone said one of the deputies she encountered on June 29 told her it had to be “two bodies outside of the body.” Although the state’s penal code recognizes a fetus as a person, the Texas Transportation Code does not. Recounting her story to the Dallas Morning News, the first to report the story, Bottone said, “One officer kind of brushed me off when I mentioned this is a living child, according to everything that’s going on with the overturning of Roe v. Wade. ‘So I don’t know why you’re not seeing that,’ I said.” She was issued a $215 ticket for driving alone in the two-or-more occupant lane — a citation she said she will challenge in court this month. Hayden Panettiere Opens Up for First Time About Addiction to Opioids, Alcohol (Nowlen Cifuentes/ People) For the first time, Hayden Panettiere is opening up about a secret addiction to opioids and alcohol that nearly cost her her career — and her life. Already a star by the age of 11 after roles on soap operas and in “Remember the Titans,” Panettiere revealed she was just 15 when someone on her team began to offer her "happy pills" before she walked the red carpets. "They were to make me peppy during interviews," said Panettiere. "I had no idea that this was not an appropriate thing, or what door that would open for me when it came to my addiction." "I was on top of the world and I ruined it," the former "Nashville" star, 32, said in the new issue of People. She spent years battling her addiction, as well as a devastating bout with postpartum depression. "I'd think I hit rock bottom, but then there's that trap door that opens." Eventually, Panettiere was determined to get help. "I put a lot of work into myself and I had to be willing to be incredibly honest," said the actress, who underwent both trauma therapy and inpatient treatment within the last year. Now she's returned to set to reprise her fan-favorite character Kirby Reed in the next "Scream" film. Pope Names Women to Bishops Advisory Committee for First Time (Vatican Media/Handout via REUTERS) Pope Francis has named three women – two nuns and a lay woman – to a previously all-male committee that advises him in selecting the world's bishops, the Vatican said on Wednesday. He had disclosed the decision in an exclusive interview with Reuters earlier this month, explaining he wanted to give women more senior and influential positions in the Holy See. The three women are sister Raffaella Petrini, an Italian who is currently the deputy governor of the Vatican City; French nun Yvonne Reungoat, a former superior general of a religious order; and an Argentine laywoman Maria Lia Zervino, president of the World Union of Catholic Women's Organizations, UMOFC. "This way, things are opening up a bit," Francis said in the July 2 interview with Reuters in his residence, when he disclosed his decision to name women to the decision-making part of the bishops department.
