Sid Shares #8SidShares Hi All! Here is my eighth monthly dose of “Sid Shares.” A list of what I’m enjoying and exploring. January was cold but packed full of interesting experiences. For me February is about 'Change'. Which I like to call ‘newness’. The third Monday in January is considered the most depressing day of the year! It’s when a lot of us realise that most of our New Year resolutions have not been realised! I think it’s also because the sparkles of Christmas have long gone and we’re into ‘getting on with the year’. It’s not easy to keep positive, so let’s take a look at ‘Change’ and all the ‘good stuff’ it brings. Firstly, spring is just around the corner and this always brings ‘newness’ and 'hope'. As the saying goes “hope springs eternal” and as long as we have ‘hope’ we have opportunity. One book I’ve read recently is Richard Reed’s, If I Could Tell You Just One Thing...: Encounters with Remarkable People and Their Most Valuable Advice. If you’re feeling up for a wealth of inspiration then this is a must read. He’s talked to 50 of today's most remarkable, diverse, and influential people…like Judi Dench and Richard Curtis, to entrepreneurial legends like Richard Branson and Simon Cowell; from sports stars and TV personalities like Andy Murray and James Cordon to political activists and born survivors like Mandela's Comrades and Katie Piper. One of my faves is the unstoppable James Cordon! I’ve been a fan of David Eagleman for years and recently watched his TED talk called Can we create new senses for
humans. In it I often think about ‘Change’ and my approach and ways that I deal with it. Or, that it actually deals with me. I often ponder and explore questions like “What does change look like to you?” “What does it feel like?” And, “How will you know when it’s done?” Sadly for most of us 'Change' goes from a gallop to a crawl. I recently came across this podcast The psychology of your future self by Dan Gilbert. Dan explores time and that we are all works in progress and we are all a process of change. Someone I’ve started following is the wonderfully named Michael Bungay Stanier, who has a fabulous agency called Box of Crayons. If you get the chance check out his work. His thoughts on change, leadership and coaching are amazing.
