A uniquely South African dictionary

The Kaaps language, synonymous with Cape Town, has never had a dictionary until now. Also known as Afrikaaps, the language developed during encounters between indigenous African inhabitants (Khoi and San), and South-East Asian, Dutch, Portuguese and English people arriving in the Cape from the 1500s. It remains one of the "oldest and most marginalised ways of speaking". The Trilingual Dictionary of Kaaps has just been released.

Is your geyser compliant?

Home-owners should be aware that geysers require a Certificate of Compliance ('COC') when installed. Although this requirement was published as part of SANS 10254 as far back as 2017, it is often overlooked by plumbers, with the unfortunate consequence that the home-owner has no valid manufacturer's warranty. This can negatively affect the outcome of an insurance claim, should the geyser burst within the standard five-year warranty period.
