South Bank Precinct Named as Queensland Retail Property Of the Year

South Bank has once again taken out the Queensland Retail Property of the Year award at the prestigious Property Council of Australia's ceremony earlier this month.

The awards acknowledge the best in retail properties and precincts while celebrating the contribution of the industry to the broader community.

CEO of South Bank Corporation, Jeff Weigh, said he couldn’t be happier as there were 71 finalists in contention for the award.

“The Retail Property of the Year award is one of the most respected awards of achievement in our industry, recognising excellence in design, marketing, presentation and food retailing,” Mr Weigh said.

“Not only did we win the Queensland Retail Property of the Year, but we also took home the Excellence in Marketing award for the Neighbourhood and Strip Centre category, thanks to the eatSouthBank campaign,” he said.

The Connection

Iridium Health

Name and position?
Tim Douge, Practice Manager

Tell us about your business/organisation?
We believe that all people deserve the opportunity for good health and a balanced lifestyle. Iridium Health is a health and fitness provider of personal fitness and classes, rehabilitation, diet & weight loss, remedial and oncology massage, naturopathy, podiatry and counselling therapy to individuals, groups, corporations and care organisations. Our health and fitness centre combines health consulting rooms with a fully equipped gym. We have a low noise, natural light environment and we provide personalised service with private health rebates and no memberships. We gain an understanding of our clients' circumstances in order to design and provide realistic solutions that result in healthier people, more productive work forces and better quality of life.

What is your role at your organisation?
As the Practice Manager I am responsible for coordinating the services of our practitioners so that our clients receive the best possible treatment. I gain the most enjoyment from my work when a client goes out of their way to tell us how their life has changed since coming to Iridium. Our expertise is in preventative health so I strive to bring that into as many arenas as possible which is not just in clinics and workplaces but also in partnership with disability and support organisations. Everybody deserves the opportunity for good health and some of the higher needs communities are significantly neglected by our current health system.

What are your key skills and responsibilities?
I am an exercise physiologist by profession however I think my main skill lies in expressing my passion for exercise to inspire and educate people to help manage their own health. Being responsible for enhancing the quality of life of an individual or enhancing the culture and performance of an organisation can be incredibly challenging but is also extremely rewarding.

How many people work at your business?
There are a total of 8 practitioners at Iridium Health.

What is your favourite place in the precinct?
You will often catch me skateboarding along the river at Southbank in my down time however I am also partial to a night out at Bacchus Rydges.

What do you want BSB members to know about you or your business?
We are aiming to make Business Southbank the healthiest and most productive business precinct in Australia. We are coming for you!

What is something people wouldn’t know about your business?
We are a business that doesn’t fit any accepted stereotype within the health and fitness industry. As well as being an allied health business offering rehabilitation, diet and nutrition, physiotherapy, exercise physiology, counselling services, podiatry, and a range of massage services including remedial, craniosacral therapy and oncology massage, we also have a fully functioning gym and offer personal training, corporate and executive health and fitness, Pilates, yoga and circuit classes, parkour and functional movement training.

What has recently happened at your organisation?
Recent additions to Iridium Health include the commencement of the first ever program for AFL Active in Queensland and we have started providing services for the deaf and hearing impaired community.

What have you learnt lately?
Never underestimate the value of good listening skills.

What do you hope to achieve in your industry?
To create a sustainable health system that will allow us to directly impact that lives of half a million people by the year 2025.

What inspires you?
The challenge -we have never seen a point in our history where the health of our population is declining faster than we can manage. Every person I see who makes a positive choice to change their lives is a step in the right direction and drives me to do more.

What are your words of wisdom?
Leaders eat last.
