BATC Shows Support for New Workforce Legislation

BATC's 2016 Legislator of the Year, Representative Jim Nash, introduced a bill during a press conference Monday, that would encourage trades and vocational careers. BATC Executive Director, David Siegel, and BATC Members Pat Hegseth, Scherer Brothers; Tony Wiener, Cardinal Homes; and Missy Redman, T. Scherber Excavating joined the conference in support.

Capitol Update: Committee Deadline Week
|
The MN Homeowner Initiative is moving through the legislative process with multiple bills advancing this week. A rundown: - HF 1234 (Davids-R, Preston) The First-Time Homebuyer Tax Savings Account initiative was heard today and continues to move through the process. The proposal encourages Minnesotans to save more of their own money by providing tax deductions and incentives to help achieve the dream of owning a home. - HF 1001/SF 745 (Vogel-R, Elko New Market; Kiffmeyer-R, Big Lake) Legislative Review of Rulemaking Impacting Housing will be heard in both the House and Senate Tomorrow. The proposal would allow the Legislature to review and amend any rule (building code,
construction stormwater permit) impacting the price of a home by $1000 or more. - Workforce Development for Construction Industry – Multiple bills are working their way through the House and Senate related to the workforce shortage being experienced in the housing industry and elsewhere. BATC is supporting efforts to promote workforce opportunities for High School students and others interested in a career in our industry.

Regulatory Affairs Update: BATC Providing Input On Stormwater
|
Last week BATC staff and members met with officials from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency regarding the upcoming stormwater permit update. A draft of the new permit is expected by early fall. BATC’s advocacy team will be submitting proposed changes to the PCA in the coming weeks and will continue to be engaged in the permit update process over the coming months.
