Terra Nova tests begin April 13

Terra Nova testing begins Monday, April 13 and runs through April 21. Please make every effort to have your child(ren) in school, on time, and well-rested. Avoid doctor appointments and family trips during this testing week.

Students join in Lenten almsgiving

"Prayer and fasting are good, but better than either is almsgiving accompanied by righteousness ... Those who regularly give alms shall enjoy a full life" (Tobit 12:8-9)

Sacred Heart School students have been practicing almsgiving during Lent by donating their loose change to a collection which was donated to the following organizations to build up the Body of Christ among us: Catholic Relief Services, Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, St. Vincent DePaul Society, the Children’s Leukemia Foundation, and St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Children learn that the reason we share what we have with others is to help them to praise and thank God.

Sacred Heart summer camps

Sacred Heart's popular summer camps return this summer. The registration form (also included in the family envelope) offers more details on activities, fees, and deadlines, along with the registration form.

Creative Kids Camp is offered to children entering grades K through two. Adventure Days Camp is offered to children entering grades three, four, and five.

Join your friends for some summer fun!

7th Grade Rite of Intention is April 19

On April 19 during the 9:30 a.m. Mass, our seventh grade students who are planning to be confirmed in 2016 will participate in the Rite of Intention along with their families.

All these students from SHES and our religious education program have written a letter of intention as to why he/she would like to receive the sacrament of Confirmation and accepting the responsibility for developing his/her faith through study, retreat, service, prayer, and reception of the sacraments of Eucharist and Penance.

Please pray for our seventh graders as they begin to enter into the time of immediate preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation.

Confirmation rehearsal is April 8

Confirmation Rehearsal will take place for both candidates and sponsors at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8 in the church. All candidates are to report with his/her sponsor; if your sponsor is unavailable a parent must fill in for this rehearsal only.

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be conferred on Sunday, April 12 at the 11:30 a.m. Mass with Bishop William Waltersheid. Candidates and sponsors are to report to the auditorium no later than 10:30 am on the day of Confirmation.

"Easter Duty" reminder

The Catholic Church requires her members to observe the “Easter Duty” each year. This requires all Catholics to receive the Eucharist during the time between the First Sunday of Lent (this year: February 22) and Trinity Sunday (this year: May 31).

The sacrament of reconciliation is required before reception of the Eucharist if the faith is not practiced and Mass attendance is not regular. The ideal for the individual Catholic is that the Eucharist be received regularly if the recipient is spiritually eligible.

Boxtops for Education earns $371, thank you!

Based on the latest boxtop submission, Boxtops for Education has earned Sacred Heart School an additional $371.

Thanks to all the families who take the time to clip and save.  At ten cents per boxtop, this amount represents almost 4,000 boxtops.

Keep it up Sacred Heart!

Children are to report to the auditorium at 10 am. Dismissal will take place from the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at 2 pm. Lunch is included for the children. Please pray for our little ones as they come to love our Lord Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.

First Holy Communion will be April 26, at the 11:30 am Mass. The First Communion Class will have reserved pews in the front of the church followed by reserved seating for their families. First Communicants are to report to his/her classroom promptly at 11 a.m.

April food: Peanut butter

In conjunction with Sacred Heart Parish, the school will collect peanut butter to be contributed to the food bank run by the East End Cooperative Ministry.

Each month, the Student Council members encourage all of us to contribute a different featured food to share with our neighbors in need. Thank you for your support.
