Reflection

Lord, we know that each of us will experience difficulties of various kinds at different times in our lives. We pray for courage at those times, but we also pray for courage and strength to join others and be of support when they are in difficulty. Amen.

Greg's Message

Hello Parents and Friends of St. Anne’s
This Friday NAPLAN student reports will be sent home to parents/carers of Year 3 and 5 students. It is important to remember that these tests are a “one off”, and are based on one assessment. This is far different to student semester reports that are constructed using a variety of assessments. Having said that, the Naplan results for St. Anne’s are very positive. Some key points include:

  • Year 3: Our students mean score was well above the state (that is, all schools including catholic, government and independent) in Reading, Writing and Grammar/ Punctuation. Our mean score was above the state in Spelling and Numeracy.
  • Year 5: Our students mean score was well above the state in in Grammar/ Punctuation. Our mean score was above the state in Reading, Writing, Spelling and Numeracy.
  • Year 3 and 5: Our students in the bottom quartile achieved at a significantly higher level than the state’s bottom quartile across all areas.
  • Year 5: Our students in the top quartile achieved at a significantly higher level than the state’s top quartile in Reading, Grammar/Punctuation and Numeracy.

CEMSIS SURVEYS
CEMSIS is an acronym of Catholic Education Melbourne School Improvement Surveys. Surveys will be offered to staff, year 4,5 and 6 students and parents. All surveys will be undertaken online. The surveys will provide feedback in relation to our school’s perceived strengths and areas for improvement, and assist in driving school improvement. The survey period has begun and is open until Friday 20 September.

Condolences
Our condolences to the Lovrich family (Tilda and Chiara) on the passing of their Grandfather (Anthony) Sam Lovrich's father.

School Fees
We still have a significant amount of school fees outstanding. For those concerned your attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Student Wellbeing

Six tips for self-compassion
Carla Ford (2018) offers us her six tips for self-kindness:

  • Carve out time for yourself to do something that feels good – go for a coffee, have a bath, read a good book; do something that brings you joy.
  • Notice your self-talk, and cut yourself some slack. Everybody makes mistakes and nobody is perfect. Speak to yourself as you would a friend.
  • Discover JOMO (the joy of missing out) and give social media a miss for a while. Everybody posts their best selves and it can make us feel bad that our lives don’t match up. Be kind and have a day free of social comparison.
  • Acknowledge your successes. We’re always quick to do that for others, so why not take a few minutes and consider all you’ve achieved?
  • Hang out with your cheerleaders. Spend time with the people who uplift you and support you – the ones who fill your tank.
  • Take your daily ‘MEDS’ (Mindfulness, Exercise, Diet and Sleep). Looking after your mind and body is a great form of self-kindness.

Footy Colour Day

On Friday the 20th September- LAST DAY OF TERM 3, the whole school is invited to wear their team’s colours to help kids with cancer continue learning.
All are encouraged to wear their favourite footy team’s colours to raise much-needed funds so that education can continue for these children who are sick.
We are asking that each child give a gold coin donation (or more if you wish!) to this very worthy cause.

Social Justice

Thank you to the Social Justice Group -Lucinda, Nathan and Jessica for their tremendous effort in collecting goods for The St Kilda Mum’s group. They met up with Sally Ridden on Friday last week. Sally was thrilled with the quality and quantity of the goods collected. She will now forward them onto the group, who will then distribute them to  mothers in need.
