Jiho Noh awarded Corning Graduate Research Fellowship

Physics student, Jiho Noh, awarded Corning Graduate Research Fellowship

Jiho Noh, a graduate student in physics at Penn State, has been awarded a Corning Graduate Research Fellowship for the 2019-2020 academic year by Corning’s Office of STEM. Noh’s application based on his research in nanophotonics—the study of the behavior of light at the nano-scale—was selected from a pool of applicants from Penn State and other universities working with Corning because of its “exceptional quality” and alignment with Corning’s research interests.

Envision 2020 call for volunteers and workshop proposals

ENVISION, the Office of Science Outreach's annual STEM Career Day Supporting Young Women, is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 29th 2020. This all-day event features workshops and networking sessions designed to expose middle and high school-aged students to potential academic and career pathways in STEM. We are currently seeking volunteers and workshop proposals for this exciting annual event

SAGF Lecturer Buckley visits State College High School scientists

Yvonne Buckley from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland delivered the Science Achievement Graduate Fellowship (SAGF) lecture, and after lunch with SAGF fellows, she visited with members of Danielle Rosensteel’s Advanced Zoology and Research classes at State College Area High School.

The application portal for students to apply for the Future Leaders of Food and Agriculture (FFAR) Fellows 2020-2023 cohort is open!  Students sponsored by UIC member companies receive preference in the ranking of applicants.

BASF seeks academic collaborators

BASF seeks collaborators in multiple areas of interest - Advanced Agriculture & Food Systems, Environmental & Life Sciences, Physical & Mathematical Sciences, Energy Generation & Storage, and Computer & Information Science. Chris M.Golde discusses how he views his career as a book with chapters. The author held four jobs in the 22 years after completing his Ph.D. He discusses the thoughts he had and the choices he made in each chapter of his career book.

SC 451 presents Exploration-U in Bellefonte

SC 451 Science Outreach and Communication students presented Exploration-U to Bellefonte K-12 children and families. Activities included testing water quality for suitable fish habitat, using probability to inform a treasure hunt, simulating symbiotic relationships, and testing the heart’s fight or flight response in real time. SC 451 develops a pedagogical approach to outreach and trains students in communication skills.
