All about the visits on social

This week we have been busy featuring some spectacular and unique visits by UoD staff on our social media channels. With External Relations visiting the Tower roof for a photoshoot in the spring sunshine, then members of the University were invited to CERN to learn about the Large Hadron Collider, and finally Sean O'Rourke from the International and Study Abroad office has been in America for a conference on education abroad.

Trainers on tarmac to tackle Type 1 diabetes

Rebecca Morris from Kirriemuir will be putting trainers to tarmac in this years London Marathon to raise money for research into the disease. Rebecca will run in memory of Claire Taylor, who passed away at the age of 17 from undiagnosed Type 1 diabetes. Find out more.

School of Social Sciences Red Nose Day

Fun and fundraising for Comic Relief

On Tuesday 21 March, staff and students from the School of Social Sciences enjoyed a fundraising day in aid of Comic Relief - with a bake sale, a tombola and the senior management added to the fun by taking a turn ‘helping out’ on reception. The day was a great success and the total raised was £807.

 

 

First steps toward male infertility treatment

Scientists from the University of Dundee believe they have taken the first steps towards developing drugs to treat infertile men. Infertility is a significant problem affecting tens of millions of couples worldwide, with around half of cases having a male factor either as a sole or contributory cause. Find out more.

Part-time MA and Cert/Dip Management courses

Designed to meet the needs and interests of adult learners, this flexible programme allows you to combine degree level study with work or family commitments, and if you are on a low income you may be eligible for a part-time fee grant to cover the costs. Classes take place either in the daytime or evening depending on the modules you take. Find out more about our part-time courses.


 

Keeping mental health in mind - free e-learning package for all University staff

The University Support Hub Managers welcome this new e-learning training resource and recommend it to all staff as an introduction to key mental health issues, or as a refresher for those who are more experienced. Aiming to give non-specialist university staff the skills and confidence to provide first line support to students experiencing mental health issues. The online sessions are short and interactive, and include optional self-assessment. Training can be found here.

Way Back When – Life as an Art Student discussion event (Tue 18 Apr)

To accompany the exhibition of Walter Simms’ photographs in the Tower Foyer Gallery, this special event will feature Walter and some of his fellow graduates from Duncan of Jordanstone College reminiscing about their experiences as art students in Dundee in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Book now.

 

 

Charity Fundraiser - burlesque & dance evening (Tue 18 Apr)

Specifically Vintage are hosting what promises to be a fabulous dance-themed fundraising evening - including burlesque performers, swing dancers and belly dancers, along with a vintage fashion parade and a raffle. Find out more.


 

Way Back When – A Walk along the Hawkhill (Sat 29 Apr)

Many of the photographs in Walter Simms’ exhibition were taken in the Hawkhill, parts of which were then changing beyond all recognition. In this special guided walk we will explore the changing face of this historic street, with the help of photographs, artworks, poetry and memories, to try to bring its rich and varied past back to life. Dundee University Karate Club Scottish Student Championships winners

For the first time in 19 years Dundee University Karate Club were the Scottish Student Championships winners, with six golds and two silver medals. Congratulations!!!

Capturing Student Transitions experiences at Dundee

UoD institutional team is aiming to create an Institution-wide map of activities, events, initiatives and any other inputs that aid student transitions into university, or through the different stages of study, or out of university and into the workplace.
