GORI connects #DREAMS For the past 7 years, GORI has served the community by connecting people, dreams, generations, cultures and causes. One of GORI's core mission is helping people achieve their dreams. We have provided members with valuable career and business opportunities through our extensive networks and partnerships. We have hosted multiple career events (video) to provide students and junior professionals with mentorship and career opportunities in New York City. In Dec 2016, GORI was invited to Global Entrepreneurship Forum in Seoul, hosted by KAIST and Seoul National University, to share how a community-based organization like GORI could play a key role in building an ecosystem for the global startup industry and job market. At this conference, we met hundreds of students who were eager to find job opportunities outside of South Korea and recognized the growing demand of connecting talent with jobs. After the trip, GORI has committed to help students and young professionals in finding the right opportunities and get connected in New York City. After 12 months of careful planning and organizing, KAIST and GORI formed a partnership to bring 4 four KAIST students from Korea to New York City for a 2-month internship and entrepreneurship program from Dec 29, 2017 to Feb 22, 2018. The Entrepreneur Roundtable Accelerator (ERA), a top accelerator in New York, joined this partnership and played a significant role in placing interns in various successful NY-based tech startups and opening access to their wide-range of successful businesses and investors. Throughout the program, students participated various lectures and seminars from industry-leading tech executives, and interned at early-stage startups working on web development, data consolidation, analytic tools development, admin management, and more. A major part of our program went beyond just work experience. During the course of the internship, we placed a heavy emphasis on the importance of networking. GORI introduced the interns to prominent trail-breaking Korean American professionals including Suok Noh (former Managing Director at Goldman Sachs), Saeju Jeong, (Founder of Noom - #1 Healthcare app in Google Play), David & Charlette Cho, (Founders of Soko Glam - the first Korean beauty startup), Robert Seo, (Co-CEO of Slidejoy that was recently acquired in a multi-million dollar deal), Peter Kang (CEO of Barrel), Khee Lee (former executive at Google), Byunggyu Ahn (Senior Developer at MongoDB), Jun Yoon (Founder at Culinary Agents), Brian Lee (former General Manager at Makers Studios - acquired by Disney for $500M+), Ryan Lee (Partner at RDK Partners), Jino Ahn (Founder of Asian Diversity) and more. So how did it go? One of the students received a full-time offer from his internship placement site and will return to New York to start living his "dream-come-true" life. We are so excited for the future of this program and the opportunity to serve many more students in 2018. We are reminded through YOU that when a community comes together, amazing things can happen.
