Special Session Watch Continues

As we enter the final weeks of Summer, state leaders continue to chip away at a deal that would bring closure to the 2016 legislative session by crafting a tax, bonding, and transportation deal. There appears to be progress on the tax and bonding projects portions of the deal, but Governor Dayton and Speaker Daudt confirmed that failure to reach an agreement on the SW Light Rail line is holding up the deal.

A special session or lack of a special session could have election ramifications in November, which further complicates the delicate deal. Leaders are planning on meeting again later this week, in what is likely to be one of the last opportunities to pull a deal together.
