Improving your Financial Literacy

Accounting may be viewed by many as a rather dry, boring subject that should be relegated to the domain of those commonly referred to as ‘bean counters’. But financial literacy should be everyone’s business, most careers require some level of financial understanding. Seven Secrets of Highly Successful Research Students

What do higher degree by research students do to finish on time, to overcome isolation, doubt and writers block? And to enjoy the process? And just as importantly, what do they do in order to spend guilt-free time with their family and friends and perhaps even have holidays? Clinical Research: Establishing Investigator Initiated Trials

If your career is in the health industry, it is likely to be influenced by Clinical Research – whether as part of your course or in your next job, understanding clinical research will be key. This workshop will cover the wide range of factors in investigator initiated clinical trials including the context of health science translation, determining the research question, setting up collaborations, the role of industry partners, writing the protocol, assessing study feasibility, costing essentials and funding options for studies. 25 July 2019, 1:30pm - 3:30pm, West End Precinct. Planning your Research Proposal (Lectures)

Part of the International Career and Research Skills Training (iCaRST) program, this module consists of 3 lectures focusing on the requirements of the research proposal and establishing the foundation for a successful proposal. This module is open to HDR students who have not yet completed their CCSP and/or undertaken the IBPR. New international students will be booked into the required modules by the iCaRST Administrator - please do not register. Lecture 1: 25 July 2019, 9:00am – 10:30am, North Terrace. Register here.

News

New CaRST Online Calendar Feature

A new feature in CaRST Online means that it’s now easier to keep track of your CaRST event bookings.

Your calendar of CaRST event bookings can now be integrated with your preferred calendar tool, including Outlook and Google Calendar. This requires a one-time set up, after which, all CaRST events you book into will be automatically added to the calendar.

To set up the calendar integration, login to CaRST Online and navigate to Train & Develop -> Calendar Settings -> Set up calendar sharing and follow the instructions.

Do you have a great business idea or invention? Enter The University of Adelaide’s Australian eChallenge. You will learn to develop, assess and action great ideas, and you’ll be provided with all the tools and opportunities you need to start your entrepreneurial story.

The Industry Engaged PhD (IEP) Program and Scholarship

IEP scholarships are now available to support eligible domestic and international students who undertake an industry placement.

The University of Adelaide’s Industry Engaged PhD (IEP) program involves participation in an industry placement of 1-3 months (FTE) in duration, together with the completion of a number of Career and Research Skills Training (CaRST) and other professional development activities. 

Completion of the IEP, including the compulsory CaRST credit courses, will be reflected as a statement on the academic transcript.

Visualise Your Thesis competition

Submissions are now open for higher degree by research students to enter the Visualise Your Thesis competition. Entrants could win $1000. Dust off your creative spark and hone your communication skills by presenting your research in a 60-second audio-visual display.

A great range of training and assistance options will be available throughout July to help you bring your vision to life, including this online training course. Further information can be found here.
 

APR Internship Opportunities Available!

The University of Adelaide has partnered with APR.Intern to expand the range of placement opportunities available to our PhD students.

At this time, we have 12 exciting opportunities available. APR.Intern facilitates short term 3-5 month placements for students to apply their research expertise to projects while gaining invaluable industry experience.
